New York District Attorney Sandra Doorley sent a brutal email to her colleagues just days before body camera showed her berating police officers who had caught her speeding.
The Monroe County prosecutor called some of her staff “a disaster, plain and simple” in the email, obtained by Democrat and Chronicle.
She began the email on a positive note, congratulating those who had been accomplishing tasks at a pace she considered reasonable, and wrote: ‘Many of you are working very hard on your cases and have been diligent in managing your caseload. . Thank you so much!!!’
But the tone quickly changed and he furiously stated: ‘many of you are a disaster, plain and simple.’ This will not be tolerated.”
He continued to underline his discontent in bold letters: ‘It is unacceptable to ignore your duties as a prosecutor. I have done everything I can to advocate for higher wages and raises. “Seeing so many of you drop so many cases is disheartening and discouraging.”
New York District Attorney Sandra Doorley sent a brutal email to her colleagues just days before body camera showed her berating police officers after refusing to stop for speeding.
In the email, the Monroe County prosecutor called some of her staff “a disaster, plain and simple.”
The email continued: ‘Beginning the week of May 6, each of you, including office heads, will meet with me in person to discuss your caseload. Office heads do not need to attend meetings with members of their office. Appellate lawyers have nothing to worry about. Please be prepared to discuss the status of all your cases, including serious crime investigations.
This tough communication style was familiar to some of his former staff who left the District Attorney’s Office during Doorley’s tenure, which began in 2011.
Doorley’s office has been accused of having a toxic environment for years.
Prosecutors gave up private practice and some accused Doorley of having a “hostile” management style, the Democrat and chronicle reported.
Local defense attorney Daniel Strollo, who previously worked for the district attorney’s office, told the outlet that “Doorley can be difficult to work for.”
But Doorley argued that its turnover rate was average compared to other offices, and called complaints about its attitude sexist.
The disgraced city worker is now under investigation after being caught on body camera calling a police officer a “moron” over a speeding ticket after refusing to stop when pulled over.
Monroe County Prosecutor Sandra Doorley had a tense interaction with a Webster police officer Monday after the officer attempted to pull her over for driving 55 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.
Doorley (pictured) refused to stop for a police officer after she was caught speeding because she “didn’t feel like it” and was stressed from having to deal with murders all day.
The heated incident occurred on April 22, when an officer followed Doorley home after she was flagged for driving 20 miles over the speed limit in her massive GMC Yukon SUV.
Doorley was driving 55 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. He now faces a state investigation into his behavior.
Doorley only admitted to driving 55 mph in a 35 mph zone after humiliating body camera video surfaced and quickly went viral.
The footage begins with Doorley telling an officer, “I’m sorry.” I’m the district attorney. He was 55 years old coming from work.
When the officer tells Doorley the reason for the traffic stop, she responds, “I really don’t care.”
The officer then tells her to get out of his garage, but she refuses.
As things continue to get worse, the district attorney calls Webster Police Chief Dennis Kohlmeier on his cell phone and asks, ‘Can you please tell them to leave me alone?’
When the officer tells her that she made the situation more serious than it had to be by refusing to stop, Doorley responds, “Just write me the traffic ticket.”
The officer reminded him that it was no longer just a traffic ticket and that failure to comply with an officer’s order to stop and stop is an “arrestable offense.”
Doorley explained that he didn’t see the point in stopping when it was so close to his driveway. ‘I thought it would be easier. I was wrong,’ he said.
When he refuses to come out of his garage, he hands the police officer the phone to talk to the police chief and tells him “leave me alone, this is ridiculous.”
The officer can be heard saying: ‘What do you want us to do? Not doing our job because it’s you? You broke another law for that. You should know better.’
The Rochester City Council sent a letter to Attorney General Letitia James on Saturday asking her to investigate Doorley’s behavior.
Bodycam footage shows the heated exchange, in which Doorley said: “I didn’t feel like stopping on Phillips Road at 5.30.”
Later in the dramatic body camera footage, Doorley can be heard complaining that he’s had a really bad day “dealing with murders in the city.”
Doorley issued a statement Thursday in which he admitted he had exceeded the speed limit and again tried to justify his decision, saying the distance was less than a half mile from his neighborhood.
‘No one, not even your district attorney, is above the rule of law, not even traffic laws. “Anyone who knows me understands without a doubt that I have dedicated my entire 33-year career to the safety of this community,” he said.
‘My work to ensure the safety and respect of law enforcement is well demonstrated time and time again.
“I stand behind my work and remain committed to the public safety of Monroe County,” Doorley continued.
Doorley issued a statement Thursday admitting he exceeded the speed limit and reaffirming his “commitment to the public.”
On Saturday, the Rochester City Council sent a letter to Attorney General Letitia James begging her to investigate the conduct of Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley.
“Recent body camera footage, shared by the Webster Police Department, has raised significant concerns regarding Ms. Doorley’s behavior during a traffic stop in Webster, New York,” the letter said.
“This incident has led us to question his fitness to serve as district attorney and we believe an investigation by his office is warranted.”
The document was signed by the nine members of the city council, who believe that Doorely violated the standards of “ethics, responsibility and respect for the law” required by his title.
Locals have said Doorley’s behavior makes a mockery of the law and could lead criminals to say they had ignored the laws because they felt like it – the same excuse used by the woman paid to prosecute them.
