A company has launched what could be the UK’s most luxurious sweet treat – a donut made from gold.
British donut company Project D has made a donut filled with a melted Caramac-like filling and topped with 24-karat edible gold leaf for Valentine’s Day.
The donut, which is covered in 24-carat edible gold leaf, costs a whopping £29.95 and will only be available for delivery on February 13, 14 and 15.
Named the mega golden heart, The dessert measures a foot in diameter and weighs 2.2 pounds, the size of a decent toaster.
The pastry has a Belgian white chocolate base, is covered in gold leaf and filled with a recreation of Nestlé’s much-loved Caramac gold bar.

Caramac was pulled from markets in November, but now Project D, which runs pop-up shops and stores across the country, is letting fans indulge in sweet nostalgia.
The donut company, founded by a group of friends in 2018, claims its Caramac recreation is so good it could rival the original recipe.
Project D said: ‘YoInspired by the electrifying lyrics of Bruno Mars, pImagine a dazzling heart-shaped delight, shining in radiant gold, reflecting the allure of “Twenty-Four Carat Magic.”

“This spectacular is edible gold, not just a miserable layer of dust, but we are talking about a complete golden armor, a shield of pure opulence.
“Imagine handing this to the person I adore, sharing a moment, sinking your teeth into the spongy softness of the artisanal dough, Caramac’s molten liquid center brimming with golden crunch on your lips.”
The treat has a variety of additional chocolate toppings including bites of KitKat, Lion and Malteser and Terry’s Chocolate Orange White, plus golden Belgian chocolate callets and crunchy caramel balls.
The Golden Mega Heart takes a staggering six hours and can be purchased online, but is only available in “very limited quantities.”
It’s only available for delivery from February 13 to 15, but cheaper versions are also available. from £15.95.
Project D was founded in 2018 by 3 friends who shared a passion and love for food.
Its main inspiration came from the 24-hour demand for donuts in the United States: in New York alone there is a donut shop on every block!
Since then, Project D has successfully collaborated with hundreds of companies, including British Airways, Brewdog, Coca-Cola, Amazon, Love Island and Sainsbury’s.
