A disabled woman has revealed how her father sexually abused her when she was 15, when her condition meant she could not defend herself.
Hayley Samani, 27, from Lowestoft, Suffolk, was only 10 years old when she began to suffer from myotonic dystrophy, causing her joints to lock randomly.
On Valentine’s Day in 2007, Mrs. Samani’s father, Matthew Brian Gilbert, abused 50.

She was helpless, unable to move or fight him after the muscles in her arms and legs stiffened.
Gilbert was convicted in June 2008 of sexually abusing his daughter and was imprisoned for only one year and two months.
Now Mrs. Samani is speaking for the first time and bravely waives her anonymity to reveal the extent of her father’s filthy abuse.
She said: ‘My father benefited from my handicap and that hurts me the most.
She was helpless, unable to move or fight him after the muscles in her arms and legs stiffened. Ms. Samani is pictured in 2002 at the age of 10
“If I didn’t report him when I did, I think he would have raped me.”
When she grew up, Samani liked going to the park with her father and he would call her his “daddy’s girl.”
In September 1999, after Mrs. Samani turned six, Gilbert asked her to give him a back massage.
She said: ‘I always jumped in excitement and loved pretending to be a masseuse.
“But when I got older, I thought it was terrible to see Dad without his top on and I thought it was really weird.
“Every morning Dad waited for me in his bedroom with his top off, then he let me rub his back.
“When I was eight, I broke and asked why my mother couldn’t do it.
“Dad told me it was because Mama had enough to do in the house and I had to help her.”
Two years later, in March 2003, then 10 years old, Hayley’s joints began to stiffen.
Gilbert forced Hayley to give him massages while sitting on his bed topless. When she grew a little older, he stared at her in bed every night
Some mornings when she tried to get out of bed, she fell to the floor.
She said: ‘One day I couldn’t move my arms at all, I was terrified.
“Mommy took me to the doctors where they did tests, but they had no idea what was wrong with me.
“After that I had good days and bad days. Some days I could run, while others I couldn’t even get out of bed.
“Fortunately due to my condition, Dad no longer asked me for massages.”
Three years later, when Hayley was 13, she went to a family barbecue with her parents.
Hayley said: “On the way home, Dad made a remark about one of my mother’s friends and said how beautiful she was.
On Valentine’s Day 2007, Mrs. Samani woke up with her father’s hands in her underwear stroking her
“The next day Dad came to me and said that I looked like Mom’s beautiful friend from the day before.
“I really felt weird and ignored him.”
Later that night, Hayley woke up from her father looking at her from the end of her bed.
Hayley said: “Dad said he wanted to check if my muscles were not playing.
“I wanted to tell Mama how scary he was, but I kept it to myself.”
Gilbert continued to sneak into Hayley’s bedroom every night for the next two years.
Hayley said: ‘I started crying and wanted to scream for mama, but I froze. I couldn’t move at all. It was so frustrating ‘
Then on Valentine’s Day 2007, the family was on a flight home from a trip to Slovakia.
Hayley said: ‘Dad was sitting next to me on the plane instead of Mama.
“When we got home, Mom rushed to her bedroom and I went to bed.
‘Hours later, Dad’s hands in my pants woke me up. He stroked me.
“I tried to push it away from me quickly, but my arm stiffened.
“I started crying and wanted to scream for mama, but I froze. I couldn’t move at all. It was so frustrating.
“After what felt like an eternity, Dad finally stopped.
“Then he said:” Your mother did not pay me any attention and it is Valentine’s Day. “
“After he left the room, I still couldn’t move, I felt so helpless.”
She confessed to her what had happened and her aunt called the police. Gilbert was arrested later that night in the parental home
Eventually, Hayley gathered the power to get out of bed and walk two miles to her aunt’s house.
She confessed to her what had happened and her aunt called the police.
Gilbert was arrested later that night in the parental home.
Hayley says: ‘My mother rushed to the police station where I made a statement.
“When I saw her, she cried hysterically. Although she was shocked, I was relieved to believe me. “
In June 2008, Matthew Brian Gilbert, 50, of Lowestoft, pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child under 16 at the Ipswich Crown Court.
He was imprisoned for a year and two months.
Hayley says: ‘Mama and I were happy, he deserved to be in prison. He benefited from me when I was weak.
“A month later, Mommy applied for a divorce.
“When I was growing up, I felt sick when I had Daddy’s name, so when I turned 21, I changed it by law.”
In June 2016, Hayley was finally diagnosed with type 1 myotonic dystrophy, a long-term genetic disorder that affects muscle function.
Hayley says: ‘Now I am disabled and I cannot work, but my fiance takes care of me.
“I will never forgive my father for what he did.
“At least I have my mother who always believed in me.”
