Liverpool striker Diogo Jota has been named Premier League Player of the Month for January.

Jota has been in good form since returning from injury at the end of December and scored three goals and added two assists last month.

The 27-year-old has taken an impressive step forward for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the absence of Mohamed Salah due to AFCON and injury and has been crucial in Liverpool’s title challenge.

The Reds are currently top, two points ahead of both Man City and Arsenal, as they aim to end Klopp’s tenure in perfect fashion.

Jota missed most of December due to a muscle injury, but returned from the bench on Boxing Day against Burnley, scoring shortly after coming on.

He was introduced in the second half during the Reds’ 4-2 win over Newcastle on New Year’s Day, setting up Curtis Jones.

Jota then scored twice and added an assist in an impressive 4-0 win against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

He followed it up with a superb first goal in Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Chelsea at Anfield, when he slotted the ball past Thiago Silva and Benoit Badiashile before finishing with aplomb.

Jota’s award comes in the middle of an impressive season for the Portuguese striker, who has scored 14 goals and added three assists in 17 starts in all competitions.

Jota’s form included two goals against Bournemouth in a 4-0 win at the Vitality Stadium.

During January, Jota also added a goal and an assist in the FA Cup ties against Arsenal and Norwich, and the Reds remain in contention in all four competitions in which they participate.

They will return to action on Saturday lunchtime when they travel to west London to take on Brentford.
