A diner was left furious after shelling out $31 for a classic pub meal that included simple shreds of lettuce as a side salad.

Chloe Joyce ordered chicken parmigiana at the Hawthorn Hotel in Melbourne’s east on Sunday.

The meal was served with chips and a house salad which is automatically included with all main courses.

“Isn’t this the most pathetic ‘homemade salad’ you’ve ever seen in a pub?” she said in a TikTok clip.

‘The Hawthorn Hotel… what are you thinking?’

The clip showed several strips of romaine lettuce topped with a pickled onion.

“If I wanted lettuce I’d go to Woolworths,” Joyce said.

Hundreds of commentators were also impressed with the accompaniment.

“That seems very sad,” wrote one.

“That’s an insult to the salad,” wrote another.

“The sad onion makes it so much funnier,” added a third.

Others suggested that it is not worth accompanying the food served in a pub with salads.

“Does anyone actually eat the salad that comes with pub food, even though mine always ends up on the plate?” wrote one.

Some defended the dish, saying that most pubs offer salads as a side.

“I love the hotel’s hawthorn salad. Please don’t change it,” one person wrote.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the Hawthorn Hotel and pub owner Australian Venue Co for comment.

Last week, one French fry lover took to social media to express her “embarrassing” portion size.

The woman was left outraged by the small size of the $10 chips she bought from a spicy chip shop on the mid-north coast of New South Wales.

She said she called the store to complain and was told they had reduced the portion sizes.
