The five things you should NEVER do when trying to lose weight

  • Skipping social events
  • Not having a plan
  • Save calories by skipping meals
  • Adopt a victim mentality
  • Weigh yourself daily

She captioned the clip: “What are the things that are stopping you from achieving your goals? Tell me!”

“These are the five things I would never do on my weight loss journey as a registered dietitian,” she said at the beginning of the clip.

Courtney then noted that she would “never skip social events.”

‘The first thing I would never do on my weight loss journey is skip social events. Skipping social events can lead to feelings of loneliness and isolation, which can actually increase the risk of chronic disease, weaken the immune system, and even increase the risk of mortality.

“Throwing yourself into social situations will help you develop the confidence you need to navigate the social scene,” she explained.

The next piece of advice she gave to those trying to lose weight was to stop treating themselves like a “victim.”

The dietician said you should try to “reframe your thoughts” when you start feeling sorry for yourself.

“I would focus on the fact that I can nourish my body with healthy, nutritious foods because nourishing the body is a gift, not a punishment,” she added.

In addition to not skipping social events and adopting a victim mentality, Courtney noted that you shouldn’t “save” your calories, meaning you shouldn’t skip meals during the day and then overeat at dinnertime.

She said: “I would never skimp on calories. I would never eat small meals or no meals at all early in the day to save my calories for later. In fact, research supports that the most important meal of the day should be breakfast.”

The health professional pointed out that skipping the last meal is actually “more beneficial.”

She then suggested that people trying to see the number on the scale go down should always have a plan and stick to it.

She explained: ‘Random recipes lead to random results. Without a plan, it’s very easy to make impulsive decisions that can derail your progress.

‘I always strive to have meals and snacks planned ahead of time so I can consistently stay on track.’

Finally, the content creator stated that she would never step on a scale every day again.

Many dieticians may disagree with me on this, but I advise against weighing yourself daily.

“I think it creates unnecessary stress and an obsession with numbers, and I choose to focus more on my energy, improving my mood, improving my lab tests… because these are true indicators of success,” she said at the end of the video.
