Didn’t you hear? Harry and William’s diaries have clashed five times this year – Sussexes make major Netflix announcement just hours after Princess Kate’s personal cancer update

The Princess of Wales with her family as she revealed she had completed chemotherapy.

Since the Waleses and Sussexes have been living separately for years, scheduling conflicts are likely to arise as the families do not have a shared schedule.

So it came as no surprise when a trailer for Harry and Meghan’s latest Netflix project was released just hours after Kate’s intimate cancer recovery video.

The clash was one of several occasions when Harry and William’s teams or their expanded projects have made announcements at similar times already this year.

There is no evidence to suggest that the timing of the Netflix video release was planned around Kate’s video, or that any of their other confrontations were done on purpose.

But here, MailOnline looks at some recent examples of newspaper conflicts that could have been avoided if the brothers weren’t so estranged:

Kate’s cancer recovery and Harry’s new Netflix project

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Archewell Productions have been working on a new Netflix documentary called Polo, which follows the sport’s elite global players.

The series won’t air until December, but was announced on Netflix’s social media yesterday, just hours after Kensington Palace posted Kate’s emotional video.

Prince William joined the princess in the clip to mark the end of her grueling chemotherapy treatment amid an extremely difficult year for the family.

The video for the Welshes was filmed in Norfolk and features their three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – as well as Kate’s parents.

But a trailer for Polo on Netflix came out just hours later, with an announcement that read: ‘Polo is a new documentary series that follows elite global players and offers an exclusive look behind the scenes of the fast-paced world of the sport.’

He added that the project is “from Archewell Productions and Boardwalk Pictures, which will premiere this December only on Netflix.”

A source told MailOnline that Netflix was announcing a “multi-title sports slate” and Polo would be one of several projects.

It was also emphasized that this was not a trailer, but rather the release of first-look images and an announcement of a premiere month, as well as an official title for the series.

American Riviera Garden and Diana’s Legacy

The Sussexes raised eyebrows in March when they made two announcements that clashed with William’s speech at an awards ceremony honoring Princess Diana.

The Prince of Wales attended the Diana Legacy Awards at the Science Museum in London, while Harry made an appearance virtually from his home in California.

William took to the stage to AC/DC’s Thundertrack, which he referred to as “George’s song,” before telling the audience that he and the Princess of Wales channel Diana’s legacy through their work.

The Duke of Sussex spoke to the group of winners before his office later released an edited clip of the conversation, stripping it down to its best moments.

His appearance, which saw the winners tell him they “missed” him in the UK, also came just hours after Meghan launched her latest business venture: luxury lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard.

The Sussexes continued to reveal the names of the winners of the NAACP Archewell Foundation’s $100,000 Digital Civil Rights Award while William was still speaking and presenting awards to the winners.

The king cannot see Harry and so William recovers his old regiment.

Buckingham Palace announced William as head of Harry’s former regiment just an hour after the Duke of Sussex said his father, the King, would not see him during his trip to the UK in May.

When Harry arrived in the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, he said his father had other commitments that meant they could not meet in person.

Harry’s spokesman confirmed that “unfortunately it was not possible” for the couple to reunite “due to Her Majesty’s busy schedule” as she returned to public duties after undergoing cancer treatment.

And just two hours later, the Palace announced that William would be appointed colonel-in-chief of the Air Corps, Harry’s former regiment.

Buckingham Palace also announced that William and Charles would attend a joint event, where the heir apparent would be named colonel-in-chief.

Before Prince Harry’s decision to step back from royal life four years ago, it was always thought he would take on the role that would see him take charge of the regiment he toured with in Afghanistan until 2014.

William and Harry will not have a meeting in New York

The announcement that Harry will embark on a solo trip to New York this month raised questions amid claims William could be there at the same time.

A spokesman for the duke said he would be in town to promote a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives.

The visit will take place during the UN General Assembly High-Level Week, from 23 to 27 September, and Climate Week, from 22 to 29 September.

There were also claims that William could be in New York at that time for the third annual Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, at the Plaza Hotel on September 24.

However, sources have since confirmed that William will not be attending the Earthshot event and that there was no change to his plans following Harry’s diary announcement.

Harry’s Invictus Games and William’s return to royal duties

Harry released a video to promote the Invictus Games last week on September 5, the same day William returned to royal duties after the summer break.

The Duke spoke about ‘healing and saving lives’ as he appeared in a clip shared with X by the official Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 account.

Harry’s video came as William was carrying out his first royal engagement since the summer break, when he visited an exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London.
