A Chinese rideshare company offers Australian customers a 50 percent discount on their daily commute throughout the month of July.

DiDi, the largest rideshare company in the world, launched its service in Sydney four months ago and will give commuters a 50 percent discount every weekday from July 8 on a $ 20 Express trip between 6am and 9am.

It operates up to five trips a week and can be redeemed at the beginning of any week in July.

Company noticed a sharp increase in requests during peak hours in June, and train stations became the top destinations for rideshare.

DiDi’s efforts hope to support the recent Transport for New South Wales announcement of half-off-peak rates to encourage responsible social distance during Sydney’s peak hours.

“We know that many Sydneysiders use rideshare as a safe means of transportation to avoid crowds, especially for commuting to the downtown area where driving is impractical,” said Lyn Ma, general manager of DiDi Australia.

“Since our launch in Sydney, DiDi drivers have used our service for first and last mile trips, especially when commuting.”

The company has also launched DiDi Care, a more purified ride option for peace of mind.

It uses its own AI-powered in-app ‘Health Guard’ program to verify that drivers wear masks and disinfectants in their vehicles before accessing them daily to accept DiDi Care trips.

However, DiDi Care trips are not part of the 50 percent discount offer for Sydney customers.
