Sean Diddy Combs has returned the ceremonial key to New York City that was presented to him last year by Mayor Eric Adams.
This comes after the mayor sent a letter to the embattled rapper on June 4, asking for his honor to be restored, following backlash over images of the disgraced rapper attack his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura.
Adams wrote that she supports survivors of domestic abuse and then noted that the Key to the City is awarded to model citizens and that Combs no longer met the selection criteria.
TMZ reported that Diddy’s team returned the key following instructions provided by the mayor’s office.
The City of New York maintains a list of all Key to the City recipients and Combs will remain on the record; however, your entry has already been modified.

‘This Key to the City was terminated by Mayor Eric Adams on June 4, 2024, via formal letter due to actions of domestic and gender violence committed by Mr. Combs.’
Last month, Adams said PIX11 that his team was meeting to reconsider the honor.
“I think we were all deeply disturbed when we saw that chilling video of the young woman being assaulted by him.
“The committee and team have never rescinded a key before, but now we are sitting down to see what the next steps will be,” he said.
Diddy is currently under federal investigation and facing serious allegations of sexual assault and abuse.
After the horrific video resurfaced, Diddy posted a front-facing camera video apologizing for his behavior.
He said he had hit rock bottom but he didn’t make any excuses.
“I take full responsibility for my actions in that video,” he said.

Last September, when he gave the key to Diddy, he declared it to be a representation of everything the rapper has done for New York, through his long-standing support of Black entrepreneurs, including millions of dollars in donations.

“Despite all his successes, Sean has never forgotten where he came from,” he said, calling Diddy the “embodiment of New York City attitude.”

‘I want to say I hit rock bottom, but I don’t make excuses, my behavior in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video, I am disgusted.
“I was disgusted then when I did it, and now I’m disgusted. I went and looked for professional help, I got into going to therapy, going to rehab.
‘I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. Very sorry. But I am committed to being a better man every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness, I’m very sorry.’
Sources said Diddy went to rehab after the 2016 incident and continues to seek therapy and spiritual work.
The video, obtained by cnnshows the shirtless rapper with a towel around his waist, chasing Cassie down the hallway of the InterContinental Hotel in Century City.
As she tried to get into an elevator, he grabbed her by the back of the neck and threw her to the ground.
He then kicked her as she lay motionless on the ground, before grabbing the two designer bags she had tried to escape with.
Diddy stood over her, kicked her again, and then dragged her back to her room by her hoodie.

Cassie claimed in a since-settled lawsuit that Diddy had paid the same hotel $50,000 for the footage after the attack.
Speaking on Sunday, Cassie’s lawyer, Meredith Firetog, said: ‘Combs’ most recent statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt.
‘When Cassie and many other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested his victims were looking for a payday.
“The fact that he was only forced to ‘apologise’ once his repeated denials were proven false demonstrates his pathetic desperation, and no one will be swayed by his false words.”
The apology comes after the Los Angeles County district attorney said they could not prosecute Diddy for the assault since the statute of limitations had run out.
The California Statute of Limitations for Simple Assault it’s a year, although aggravated assault is three years. According to the schedule, no charges could be brought against Diddy.
