The office cited the statute of limitations for assault and said that because the footage was filmed in March 201, the deadline for filing charges had expired.

“If the conduct described occurred in 2016, unfortunately we would not be able to file charges as the conduct would have occurred beyond the time frame in which an assault offense can be prosecuted,” the Los Angeles district attorney’s office wrote in a statement.

The statute of limitations in California for simple assault is one year, although aggravated assault is three years. According to the schedule, no charges could be brought against Diddy.

The office added that authorities have not filed charges against Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, related to the attack.

After Cassie’s lawsuit was settled in November, her attorneys issued a statement saying the star “decided to resolve this matter amicably on the basis that I have some level of control.”

“I want to thank my family, fans and lawyers for their unwavering support.”

In his own statement following the settlement, Diddy’s attorney said his agreement in the case was in no way an admission of guilt.

His lawyer added that he denies all of Ventura’s accusations.
