The marriage breakup of The Golden Bachelor’s Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist reportedly occurred over a disagreement over cornfields.
Three months after their dream TV wedding, Gerry and Theresa confirmed their split on Good Morning America in April.
But now The Bachelor alum Ben Higgins has shed more light on The Golden Bachelor stars’ breakup, saying the couple decided to call it quits after a disagreement over cornfields.
On Monday’s episode of the Almost Famous podcast with Ashley Iaconetti, co-host Ben opened up about a ‘rumor’ he’d heard about Gerry, 72, and Theresa, 70, splitting.
Three months after their dream wedding, Golden Bachelor’s Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist divorced, but their split was reportedly more about relocation than a lack of love.
Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist decided to divorce just three months after their dream TV wedding.
“I want to make it clear that, as a preface, this is a rumor of a generalization of a conversation Gerry and Theresa had, and I think you’ll find it interesting,” the Bachelor alum said on the podcast.
Ben explained that the possible discussion about ending the relationship had arisen when Theresa went to visit Gerry in Indiana and they returned to their lake house.
Theresa apparently said something that upset Gerry during the two-hour drive home, which led to a new conversation about his values.
Ben alleged that Theresa said, ‘Wow, look at all this beautiful virgin land.’ Think about what could be done if they developed it. Condos, office buildings, apartments.
The Bachelor alum said Theresa went on to say, “Think about the cities that might congregate in these open fields and think about the people who would be interested in moving here.”
And look at that lake. There is a lake with only corn fields around it. “Think about whether they build a resort where people can go on vacation,” she parroted what Theresa apparently said.
According to Ben, Gerry’s response was rumored to have been, “You don’t take a farmer’s land.”
The Bachelor star went on to say, “This was a great start to them disagreeing about how they saw the world, what they envisioned for the world, and how they wanted to invest in the world.”

Late last year, Gerry’s healthy image began to crack after he became embroiled in scandal when a report uncovered a secret past.
The couple announced the news of their split during an interview on Good Morning America this morning, when they opened up about the reasons for their shocking split.
Although the podcast hosts emphasized that it was all rumors, their guest, Bachelor season 19 alum Chris Soules, who is also a farmer, chimed in saying he could see how the argument would play out on both sides.
‘There are areas that would benefit from development and, economically, it makes sense. But there is a lot of land out there, farmers have a lot of land to farm and sometimes there are some misconceptions that, maybe, there is a shortage, but they are not producing more new land, so that’s it,” he explained .
“But that doesn’t seem like something that should interfere with a fundamental breakdown of a relationship, I would say. I think there’s a middle ground that we can all live with. … I don’t think that should have resulted in [a breakup]But you, to each their own, I guess.
DailyMail.com has contacted representatives for Gerry and Theresa for comment.
Gerry initially captured the hearts of millions when he was introduced as a doting retired restaurateur who hadn’t been on a single date since his wife of 45 years died suddenly from an infection in 2017.
However, at the end of last year his healthy image began to crack after he became involved in a scandal when a report by The Hollywood Reporter unearthed a secret past that included a three-year relationship after the death of his wife.
He also alleged that the woman he was in a relationship with claimed she was dumped because she gained 10 pounds, in a move that didn’t match her on-screen personality.
