A ‘nightmare’ strata company is under investigation for allegedly failing to pay for business transactions and ignoring its customers.

WhatsNew2Day Australia can reveal that Sydney-based Dexterity Strata is being investigated by NSW Fair Trading.

The regulator has appointed its own managers to run the business and its associated companies while it investigates allegations from angry customers questioning whether the company “still exists”.

A Dexterity Strata customer, who lives with his wife in an apartment block in inner-city Sydney, criticized the company’s lack of communication.

“They were great in the moments after we signed our building – then we barely heard anything from them,” he told WhatsNew2Day Australia.

“We have been planning a major construction project for years and since they took control there has been no movement on it.

‘They rarely respond to emails or concerns and the Google reviews of the company are horrible.

‘Who knows how many clients they have, but strata are big business these days.

‘The whole system needs reform: strata companies hardly have any responsibility to do anything except at the time of the annual general meeting and collecting taxes.

‘Who knows what’s going to happen next? We are all very worried.’

WhatsNew2Day Australia has approached Dexterity Strata for comment. Depak Mishra, who is listed as the company’s CEO on LinkedIn, was also contacted.

Dexterity Strata boasts of offering “premium, personalized and friendly service.”

“Our mission is to provide an unrivaled strata management (sic) service,” their website states.

But the company has been inundated with one-star ratings on Google reviews, the lowest that can be given.

“They are a complete nightmare to deal with,” wrote one irate customer.

‘Their communication is practically non-existent and it takes them weeks to give a regrettable response.

‘Their customer service is absolutely terrible, regardless of whether you are a landlord or tenant. Avoid them at all costs.’

One customer called them “absolute garbage.”

“This strata company will not pay any merchant money owed or return calls or emails,” they wrote just a day ago.

Another branded the company “very dodgy”, while a frustrated customer said they had been forced to organize all the jobs themselves.

‘Once the service contract is signed, they disappear,… they do not answer calls,’ they said.

The regulator has appointed its own managers to run the business and its associated companies while it investigates allegations from angry customers questioning whether the company “still exists”.

A spokesperson for NSW Fair Trading told WhatsNew2Day Australia they are “investigating this business” but said they could not reveal any further details because the investigation is ongoing.

“NSW Fair Trading has appointed a manager for the company and associated companies under Section 126 of the Property and Securities Dealers Act 2022,” the spokesperson added.

Under the law, a manager can be appointed for a number of different reasons related to concerns about the operation of the company.

WhatsNew2Day Australia has seen correspondence from Hayes Advisory informing owners that the company had taken over management of Dexterity Strata.

“The appointment requires us to take full control of the Companies’ businesses, which we have, and carry out a preliminary review of the same, which is already underway,” the letter said.
