Thursday’s hard-fought Rangers-Devils game in Newark led to a violent outburst in the crowd, where a New Jersey fan was seen headbutting a Blueshirts fan before being ejected.

The incident unfolded in the first period with the first-place Rangers leading 2-0 en route to a 5-1 victory.

The Devils fan, wearing a replica of Jack Hughes’ No. 86 jersey, is seen arguing with another man in a winter jacket along a staircase in one of the lower sections of the Prudential Center.

As the action continues on the ice, two more fans enter the fray in an attempt to keep the peace.

Then, as someone off-screen yells ‘hit his ass,’ the Devils fan launched a headbutt over the stair railing; and although it’s unclear if it connected, the Rangers fan eventually fell backwards under a flurry of blows.

Security tried to separate them, but the Rangers fan didn’t finish and launched a right cross, which didn’t seem to cause any damage.

At that point, the railing dividing the two combatants proved insurmountable and security was able to easily separate them. Only instead of both being ejected, it was just the Devils fan who was shown the door.

“I didn’t start shit,” he said as he was guided up the stairs toward the exit.

‘Go home, buddy, go home,’ a voice is heard shouting from off-screen.

While Thursday was a home game for the Devils, there was a sizable Rangers contingent in the crowd, given the proximity of the two Hudson River rivals.

And that wasn’t the only violence in Newark on Thursday.

Rangers rookie Matt Rempe, 6-foot-7, was ejected after a questionable hit on the Devils’ Nathan Bastian, whose head got caught against the boards. Bastian suffered a head injury and bloodied nose, prompting his teammate Jonas Siegenthaler to challenge Rempe to a fight.

Earlier this week, Rempe brawled with Islanders bully Matt Martin in front of 80,000 fans at MetLife, just seconds after his NHL debut.

Rempe was already making league history as the first player to make his NHL debut in an outdoor game and likely set the record for the fastest fight in a career and therefore the fastest penalty.

Less than 90 seconds into the Empire State rivalry clash, in front of just under 80,000 fans in New Jersey, Martin and Rempe lined up facing each other at center ice for a showdown.

The fight lasted about 30 seconds as both players threw punches without wearing gloves.
