Devastated family desperate for answers after ‘amazing’ five-year-old girl dies suddenly

A devastated family is desperate for answers after their “incredible” five-year-old girl died suddenly after contracting what they thought was just a stomach virus.

Isabella Grace Docherty, known as Bella, aged 5, has passed away suddenly just hours after falling ill and collapsing at her home in Newarthill, North Lanarkshire.

The five-year-old’s mother, Pamela Little, explained that the family believed it was “nothing to worry about” and that Bella was not feeling well due to vomiting.

Pamela mentioned how the energetic young woman was still begging for food and was even ‘bossing’ her family.

However, around 4 am after Bella’s father, Brian, carried her downstairs after she was struggling to sleep in her bed, she suddenly vomited and collapsed on the floor.

The 38-year-old mother told the Daily entry: ‘Brian yelled at me to get off. When I walked in, he was holding her in her arms. I brushed her hair out of her face and my gut told me that she was gone.

“We called an ambulance and did CPR, a neighbor came to help until the paramedics arrived and after that, it’s just a nightmare.

“I just remember seeing his face and realizing that something bad had happened.

Bella passed away on Monday, February 13 at Wishaw General Hospital despite the best efforts of the paramedic to save her life.

The year before, doctors had discovered a non-life-threatening abnormality in Bella’s brain stem after an MRI.

But Brian and Pamela were told this was not believed to be related to their daughter’s death.

Pamela added: ‘She has some issues with her brain, but nothing we were told to worry about.

The doctors said it could have been something she was born with.

They didn’t know exactly what it was and now they may never find out. She was supposed to check into the hospital last week as an inpatient for some tests, but unfortunately, all of a sudden, she left.

Bella’s autopsy results were inconclusive and the family is still awaiting the results of other tests.

Pamela, who is also the mother of Ellie, 13, and Leon, 15, said it’s “killing them inside” not having the answers and that the family’s world has been turned upside down after Bella’s death.

Describing her youngest son, she said: ‘We are absolutely devastated. Bella was our fun loving little diva and now we just want the world to know how amazing she was.

A fundraising page has been set up to help pay for Bella’s funeral.

Organizer Stacey Banks wrote: ‘With the family’s permission, I have created this page for anyone who wants to help the family at this devastating time.

“In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Brian and Pamela’s precious Princess Isabella was sadly suddenly taken away at just 5 years old.

“The excruciating pain and suffering the family is going through right now is unimaginable.

‘Any donations towards the celebration of the life of our beautiful Bella would be greatly appreciated.’
