After leaving FC Bayern four weeks ago, Julian Nagelsmann is without a job. But it shouldn’t be long before the 35-year-old finds a new employer, after all, numerous clubs are interested in the ex-Munich player. Above all, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur were recently traded as hot contenders for employment from summer 2023. Nagelsmann has now canceled one of these top English teams.
It has not yet been clarified whether Julian Nagelsmann will train in London next season, but an interested club from the capital of England is said to have received a refusal from the former Bayern Munich coach. As the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano learned and as the English “Telegraph” reports, Nagelsmann does not want to go to Chelsea.
The Blues had recently been traded as the most promising candidate for the 35-year-old. According to media reports, Nagelsmann is said to have been on the club’s shortlist, which in the end only had four names left. He was said to be ahead of Mauricio Pochettino, Vincent Kompany and a coach not named by “Sky Sports” at the top of the wish list as the successor to the sacked Graham Porter or his interim representative Frank Lampard. The former Spanish national coach Luis Enrique, who was also an issue, is said to have failed.
Ex-coach of FC Bayern comments
It is not known why Nagelsmann and Chelsea did not get together. When asked by “Sky”, Nagelsmann only said meaningfully: “In order to cancel something, you have to promise something.”
A few days ago, the sacked Bayern coach presented his concept to those responsible for the troubled club. But now the turnaround. Apparently, a common denominator was found in too few points. Was it (also) due to the words of Ralf Rangnick?
The former Nagelsmann confidant and current Austria coach recently said on “ZDF”: “At the moment you can’t recommend anyone to go there. You first have to develop a strategy and reduce the squad to a reasonable size that a coach can work with. “
Since the club was taken over by the American Todd Boehly around a year ago, the club have signed 17 players for a total sum of 625 million euros.
Despite the huge investment in the team and three different team managers this season, there has been no sporting success so far. After 31 match days, Chelsea are only eleventh in the Premier League. The club lost to Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Nagelsmann had surprisingly lost his job to Thomas Tuchel in Munich in March in the middle of his second season with Bayern.
