Authorities in Texas have launched a search for a young cheerleader who has been missing since yesterday, and her mother suspects the teen’s “emotionally abusive” boyfriend may be involved.
Ava Phillips, 17, was last seen leaving Angleton High School around 10 a.m. and getting into a white Toyota Corolla after skipping her fourth-period class.
The teen’s mother, Kailey Perez, raised the alarm after her car was found in the school parking lot with her phone, keys and backpack inside.
Perez also told Angleton Police Department Sgt. Cory Budnick that Ava may be with her boyfriend and heading to Austin, nearly 200 miles away.

“She called me from a blocked number. She seemed scared and I don’t think she’s in control.
“She told me she would come home, but she hasn’t. I just want her to come home safely. She seems very scared.

In a Facebook post, officials said the brown-haired girl was seen wearing a gray top, black sweatpants, slippers and a braid.
