A desperate search is on for a 14-year-old girl who is missing after she did not return home on Tuesday evening.

Police are concerned about the well-being of Jenepher Edith Stephanie Smith, who was last seen in Middle Swan, northeast Perth, around 5.20pm on Tuesday.

Jenepher is about 150 cm tall, has light skin, of medium build, shoulder-length brown hair and green-blue eyes.

She was last seen in tie-dye pants and a black T-shirt.

A social media response responding to a message from Western Australia police suggested that Jenepher got off the train in Stirling, north of Perth’s CBD, on Tuesday.

But as of Wednesday morning, her exact whereabouts remain unknown.

Anyone who sees Jenepher is encouraged to call the police immediately.

According to statistics obtained from the Australian Federal Police and the National Missing Persons Coordination Center, approximately 25,000 children are reported missing in Australia every year.

About a third of missing persons are missing more than once and are often at a friend’s house.
