“After learning of the incident, we investigated and terminated the individual,” Kate Roberts, Never Back Down’s national field director, told the outlet. Washington Post.
‘Our field program is having thousands and thousands of amazing conversations across the country every day. This individual’s behavior is contrary to the standards taught in our training and is not tolerated.’
Never Back Down is different from many campaigns in that they are employing people to advocate for DeSantis rather than using volunteers.
The employees, who responded to ads promising $20 to $22 an hour for their work, receive eight-day training sessions in Iowa before being sent out into the field.
The PAC defends the strategy, saying its 350 to 400 pollsters knocked on about 700,000 doors and got more than 7,000 people to take cards pledging to DeSantis’ caucus in the battleground state of Iowa.
“By the end of the month, our pollsters will have knocked on more than 1 million doors,” Davison said in a statement.
“Every day these pollsters have thousands of conversations, identifying supporters we will then mobilize, as well as identifying undecided voters who get a targeted following based on the conversation at the door.”
Never Back Down does not work directly with the DeSantis campaign and can receive unlimited donations.
