Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis blasted Manhattan da Alvin Bragg over the weekend, as former President Trump continued to overtake him in opinion polls.
In his second speech to a New York City-area audience in six weeks, DeSantis said Bragg was “all about politics” and called him “a threat to society.”
DeSantis, speaking in Nassau County hours after a speech at a Pennsylvania leadership convention, blasted the progressive DA for working to keep felons out of jail and reduce felonies to misdemeanors.
However, despite DeSantis’ visits to the North, a new Yahoo News poll shows former President Donald Trump is now 26 points ahead of DeSantis, more than triple his previous lead over the Florida leader since his indictment last week.
A poll after the indictment showed Trump leading DeSantis

Over the weekend, progressive DA Ron DeSantis blasted for working to keep felons out of jail and demote felonies to misdemeanors.

However, despite DeSantis’ visits to the North, a new Yahoo News poll shows former President Donald Trump is now 26 points ahead of DeSantis.
During his final speech, DeSantis, who has not yet announced his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, did not mention Trump by name, but instead called on Bragg to file a “flawed indictment against a former president of the United States.”
He continued, “All these legal gymnasts behaving like this is a felony—when almost every time he’s trying to take the felonies down and lower their stature.”
This man is doing politics! “He’s got an agenda—that’s not the rule of law,” said the governor, who was greeted with a standing ovation from his audience.
The governor has done a lot of the agenda to bolster himself, talking about his record in Florida over the past four years.
“We don’t have leaks, we don’t have palace intrigue,” he said, a possible reference to the Trump administration’s often chaotic affairs.
“We’re just executing the agenda.”
Instead of focusing on Trump, a subject he would need to find a way to navigate if he formally announced his presidential candidacy, he spent most of his time bashing President Joe Biden.
He called Biden “weak” and “stuttering,” and said he was “dominated by left-wing elements in the Democratic Party.”
Dozens of Trump supporters lined the street outside DeSantis’ speech, many waving “Trump 2024” signs and some flaunting “DeSantis 2028” stickers.
I think (the indictment) is completely bogus. “They just want to slow[Trump]down,” said Rose Moy, 60, adding, “I don’t really care about DeSantis.”

Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg has been accused of pursuing a political “witch-hunt” against Trump

During his final speech, DeSantis, who has not yet announced his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, did not mention Trump by name, but instead called on Bragg to file a “flawed indictment against a former president of the United States.”
Regardless of Trump’s big lead over DeSantis, according to the Yahoo poll, the same poll showed voters are largely unsupportive of Trump taking a second term if the indictment results in his conviction.
When asked: “If Donald Trump is convicted of a crime in this case, do you think he should be allowed to serve as president again in the future?” 52 percent said it shouldn’t.
Thirty-one percent of respondents said that he should still serve another term. That split among Republicans was 56 percent think he should be president again, 24 percent think he shouldn’t, and 20 percent aren’t sure.
Donald Trump’s allies remain optimistic that his indictment has increased his popularity as their research shows he is winning the Republican leadership race.
A poll by the Trump campaign team finds that 51% of Republicans see him as their favorite candidate for 2024 – what puts him ahead of his biggest threat, Ron DeSantis, who scored 21 percent.
The allegation comes after Team Trump claimed yesterday that more than $4 million was donated to his presidential campaign within 24 hours after he was indicted.
The former president faces 34 counts related to the alleged payment of $130,000 in “hush money” to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016.
Trump’s team conducted a full field ballot test of 14 potential Republican candidates on Friday and Saturday — two days after he was impeached.
While Trump and DeSantis came out on top in the latest poll, former Vice President Mike Pence came in third with six percent of the vote.
Nikki Haley finished fourth with four percent as all other candidates had two percent or less each.
A general ballot test in the general election also put Trump ahead of Biden 47-43 — a number that hasn’t changed much since his previous team’s poll in March.
Meanwhile, 47 percent of those surveyed said he would not get a fair trial in Manhattan.
Trump has repeatedly expressed concerns about his trial in the Democratic nation.

Trump was dramatically indicted Thursday after a years-long investigation into the money paid to Daniels
Trump was dramatically indicted Thursday after a years-long investigation into the money paid to Daniels.
He is due to be arrested on Tuesday and faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
It was a victory for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who reheated the investigation and doggedly pursued the case.
But Trump and his family members have repeatedly accused Prague of a politically charged “witch-hunt” that will make voters more sympathetic to the former president.
