- Quentin Smith, 50, admitted watching child porn on his laptop for a year
- He resigned as deputy director of St John's Regional College after police raids
- Smith was sentenced to imprisonment but released on the basis of an injunction
A former deputy director of a suburban Catholic school has avoided jail after possessing child pornography, including & # 39; depraved & # 39; bestiality video & # 39; s.
Quentin Smith, 50, admitted that he had access to child porn on his laptop for 12 months until March 2018 for 12 months.
He resigned as deputy director of St John's Regional College in Dandenong after police raided his home in March last year.
When officers searched the laptop, they found 156 child pornography files, including videos and photos, with some children aged six and older.
& # 39; Part of the material you viewed was particularly shocking and disturbing & # 39 ;, said Judge Michael O & # 39; Connell of the County Court on Thursday.

One video showed Smith performing a sexual act during a bestiality clip with a dog and an adolescent man.
Another video showed sexual acts between young male children and a pony or a small horse.
& # 39; That material was particularly corrupted & # 39 ;, said Judge O & # 39; Connell.
The former teacher also visited online chat rooms and wrote in March 2018 & # 39; excited for children & # 39; and received a URL as a response.
When Smith was interviewed, he admitted that he was relieved.
He voluntarily enrolled in a sex treatment program and told the psychologist that he & # 39; despises & # 39; was by his behavior.
& # 39; I'm shocked at how out of control I was, & # 39; said Smith about the crime.
The insult began when he struggled to cope with extreme stress after the death of his partner and problems at work.
He abused drugs every weekend, including meth and GHB, which, according to the judge, was the case.
Despite the shocking accusations, former colleagues and friends assisted Smith and submitted positive character references on his behalf.
A former colleague said the allegations & # 39; completely out of character & # 39; were for the & # 39; intelligent, intuitive teacher & # 39 ;.
The judge was impressed by the number of positive character references, but noted that the crime was not a victimless crime.
& # 39; Behavior of the kind that you engage in does indeed nourish and encourage the terrible exploitation of innocent young children, & # 39; said Judge O & # 39; Connell.
Despite serious allegations, Smith worked with the police, pleaded guilty at an early stage, apologized, and had undergone rehabilitation treatment.
No children at the school were affected by his crimes, and the fact that he was a teacher was not an aggravating feature of his insult, Judge O'Connell said.
Smith pleaded guilty for access to child pornography, the production and possession of material for child abuse and the possession of GHB.
He was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment, but released on the basis of a warrant and must be of good conduct and submit an 18-month community decision with 200 hours of volunteer work.
He will be included in the register of sex offenders for life.
