On his Instagram, Fred shared a video of the winning jump and wrote: ‘What emotions! What a beautiful moment! So many tears! I am full of pride, joy and happiness. Well done and congratulations.

Fred was delighted for the couple as he spoke to his daughter live on the BBC after they shared a warm hug.

“What a competition! It’s always like a rollercoaster between you girls,” Fred said, eliciting a giggle from the two Brits.

“You really set me on the right path, but that last jump was spectacular. You knew you had to give it your all and you did it. It was incredible.”

“I’m in awe of what they’ve achieved. It’s an incredible journey for them, they’ve won a medal, they’ve shown their class. I’m so impressed and so happy for them. I’m so proud I’m bursting at the seams.”

Addressing her comeback from a seemingly hopeless position, Andrea said through tears: After the front jump it was a bit tricky, but after the inside jump she never fell again, no matter what.

‘Keep going, don’t give up. We had two more rounds left, we could do it, and if anyone could do it, it was us.

‘Be strong, be brave. Go for it! We needed to make one last dive.’

Lois added that she agreed to take on the role of underdog as the British duo battled to win a medal.

“I feel like sometimes it’s easier when you know you have to make a good jump, almost like you’re the underdog and you have to keep fighting,” he explained.

“It really encouraged us to make our last two dives as good as possible.”

Andrea then revealed why she always believed she and Lois could turn their fortunes around after their mid-competition slip-up.

“We’ve won a medal in synchronised swimming in every competition we’ve competed in since we started. Of course it was possible,” she said. “But to be here now is surreal.”

Fred beamed with pride throughout the interview at having been in Paris all week to support his daughter, and Lois also expressed gratitude towards her own family before bursting into tears.

“Okay, girls. Thank you so much for this amazing day. For you,” she said as she raised a glass of champagne.

It was certainly an emotional morning for the pair as they secured Team GB’s third diving medal of the week with several days of competition still remaining.
