Democrats give eye-roll-worthy reason for why Biden was pulled from primetime as Kamala Harris poised to upstage her own convention

Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, could upstage her own convention as she and vice presidential nominee Tim Walz will hold a rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, that will be cabled to Chicago's United Center, where the Democratic National Convention is being held.

Democrats gave an eye-roll-worthy reason for why President Joe Biden was pulled from prime time on Monday, when his speech at the Democratic National Convention extended past midnight on the East Coast.

There was too much applause.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison gave that explanation Tuesday morning during an appearance on CBS Mornings.

“And part of the reason we were a little late is because every single person got a round of applause for what they were saying,” Harrison said.

More scheduling issues are expected Tuesday night, as the Democratic ticket — Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz — will hold an evening rally in nearby Milwaukee, Wisconsin, hoping to bolster their support in a key swing state.

Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, could upstage her own convention as she and vice presidential nominee Tim Walz will hold a rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, that will be cabled to Chicago’s United Center, where the Democratic National Convention is being held.

That rally, which will be held at the Fiserv Forum, the same venue where former President Donald Trump and Republicans held their convention just weeks earlier, has the potential to overshadow the Democratic convention.

Harris and Walz are expected to speak around 8 p.m. CDT, in the middle of programming for the second day of the Democratic National Convention.

Organizers said Harris’ remarks will be broadcast to the United Center, where the Chicago meeting will be held.

This means that programming will have to be appropriate for locations in both cities.

The Democratic National Convention schedule on Monday night was so delayed that several events had to be canceled, including a musical performance by legendary singer-songwriter James Taylor.

Taylor was set to sing “You’ve Got a Friend,” a song she practiced in the convention hall during a dress rehearsal early Monday.

Harris-Walz communications director Michael Tyler said Democrats are “leaving nothing to chance,” which is why the candidate will hold the rally in Milwaukee.

TRUMP TROLL? Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, rented out the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee for a rally Tuesday night, which was the venue chosen by Republicans for the Republican National Convention last month.

She’ll be there to “energize Wisconsin voters in the place Donald Trump called a ‘horrible town,'” Tyler said.

In June, Trump reportedly called Milwaukee “horrible” during a closed-door meeting with Republican members of Congress ahead of their convention.

Several MAGA-aligned lawmakers argued that the Republican candidate was referring to crime and voter fraud and was not using the word as a general description of the keystone city-state.

The event could also upset Trump, if Harris manages to draw a sizable crowd.

Tyler could not predict whether he would draw more people than Trump at the Republican National Convention in the same venue.

“I don’t know what the actual capacity is, but I think what we’ve seen over the course of the last few weeks, since the vice president started this campaign, is a groundswell of enthusiasm,” Tyler told reporters Tuesday morning in Chicago.

Those who choose to come to the Milwaukee event will also get a taste of the Democratic National Convention.

After Walz and Harris conclude, fans will be invited to an outdoor party in the Deer District, located just outside Fiserv Forum, where the Milwaukee Bucks play.

There, they will be able to watch the DNC’s top-notch programming, which will include speeches by former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama’s first foray into the campaign trail this cycle.

“We’re going to use every tool at our disposal between now and November 5th,” Tyler vowed.
