The Ghost star, 61, was on stage giving the entertainment icon, 78, a glowing tribute, when an audience member in the back appeared to provoke his ire.

At this point, Demi paused, apparently agitated by someone in the audience, before saying: ‘Are you an Emmy winner down there in the back of the room? Damn, I don’t think so.

‘She is a style icon and my personal hair inspiration. And amfAR honored her with the Inspiration Award in 2015.
“The bottom line is that she is one of the most talented, successful and beloved artists of all time,” Demi continued.
“So please,” he said, before taking another noticeably long pause, as he looked out at the crowd, before continuing, “please give a warm welcome to the incredible, one-of-a-kind Cher.”
It is unclear if anyone in the audience had said anything, or if she was reacting to noise coming from the crowd during her performance, or was simply joking.
Earlier on the red carpet, Demi and Cher posed together as they enjoyed a reunion nearly 30 years after starring in the 1996 HBO series ‘If These Walls Could Talk.’
Demi, Cher and her younger boyfriend, Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards, 38, joined other stars throughout the night to help raise funds for HIV/AIDS research at the annual gala, which was instituted for the first time in 1993 by Elizabeth Taylor.
Cher was also photographed performing during the night in a clip posted by model Heidi Klum on her Instagram. She sizzled in a shiny black jumpsuit and black leather jacket.

Demi and Cher showed off their long-time friendship with sweet photos on the red carpet, as they hugged each other, Demi leaned in to kiss and Cher leaned in to meet her.
Alexander, Cher’s music executive boyfriend at Def Jam, who shares a son with American model Amber Rose, joined in the finale.
Ready to move on to the next photo spot, Demi’s tail was held by a man dressed in a stylish silver suit so she could move quickly.
Outside, Demi ran into Paris, Michael Jackson’s eldest daughter, who was dressed all in black and adorned with leaf jewelry.
