Demi Moore has spoken out about how hard she used to be on herself.

The GI Jane actress, 61, opened up about her self-hatred while discussing her latest role as Elizabeth Sparkle in body horror film The Substance.

Referring to the decades of dieting and exercising she underwent in Hollywood, Demi said she was sad about what she did to herself.

“I said it with bad intentions. I focused on violence, on how violent we can be with ourselves, on how brutal we can be,” he said.

“We’ve all had moments where we go back and try to fix something,” he said.

He added: “You are simply making things worse to the point of becoming incapacitated.”

‘We’re seeing these little things that no one else is seeing, but we’re so hyper-focused on all that that we’re missing it.

‘All of us, if we start thinking that our value is only in our appearance, we will eventually be crushed.’

She added that she is surprised at how “cruel” humans can be to themselves when it comes to their bodies.

Demi told The Guardian that the nightmarish plot resonated with her because it showed the “circumstances of a woman in the entertainment industry facing rejection and deep despair” as “everything that seemed meaningful in her life is being ripped away.”

She added on how this led her to reflect on people’s cruelty towards themselves when it comes to their bodies: ‘What really struck me was the harsh violence against oneself.

“It’s not what they do to you, it’s what we do to ourselves.”

Demi added that there is a “depth to exploring our psyche” and “our internal dialogue” that the body horror genre “seems to amplify.”
