When they went on tour to promote Camp Rock 2, things didn’t improve between them and they went years without speaking to each other.

However, while working on her new documentary, Demi reached out to Alyson, who is nonbinary and has stated their preference for “they” pronouns.

Demi had to assure Alyson that she had changed over the years before her former co-star agreed to be interviewed for the project.

She and Alyson sat down for an off-camera conversation that the latter described as “healing” before the recorded interview took place.

Alyson also had other concerns about the project, namely that “it would fall under the umbrella of E!’s sensational Hollywood stories that would then actually perpetuate what I call the chain from the child to the train disaster.”

Demi managed to allay those concerns and she and Alyson sat down to have a candid conversation about the travails of child stardom.

Alyson and Demi exchanged their reactions to seeing their digitally altered photos in magazines when they were still minors.

They also recalled that they had to be carefully “on brand” as squeaky-clean Disney Channel personalities, unlike the Nickelodeon teens, who Demi was jealous of because they were allowed to be a little more daring.

Demi explained that her “traumatic” experience of childhood stardom led to her having a problematic attitude during the making of Camp Rock 2.

“I think about the people in the costume department on my TV show because I would go in there in a bad mood all the time, and I would worry about the guest stars that came on or the other actors or the people during Camp Rock 2,” she said.

“And it’s easy to excuse that behavior because I was so young and I suffered a lot, but I truly regret it, and that’s a guilt that stays with you forever.”

It also emerged that the documentary will premiere on September 17 on Hulu, and will last approximately an hour and a half.

When Camp Rock aired, Demi, then 15, was already a Disney Channel star on the network’s sitcom As The Bell Rings, which aired from 2007 to 2008.

As she grew older, she rose to pop stardom and her personal problems began to come to light more and more.

Demi has said in the past that she “experimented” with drugs as a pre-teen, after being involved in an accident and being prescribed opioids.
