Delta Goodrem reveals she had to learn to accept not achieving wider fame after being diagnosed with cancer at the peak of her career: ‘That’s been a huge lesson’

Delta Goodrem is a beloved Australian singer who has fans all over the world.

But the star admits that at one point her career seemed to be on a bigger trajectory than it ultimately took after she was hit with a devastating cancer diagnosis.

The 38-year-old says in this week’s issue Stellar Magazine that she is “proud” of her career but that she must “accept what she cannot control”.

“I think about my story: For a while, I thought it was going to follow the course of those who came before me – and those who came after me,” the Innocent Eyes singer said.

“I signed with a music label at a young age, I joined a fabulous television series (Neighbors), and I had successes all over the world,” Delta continued.

“But my story wasn’t meant to follow the trajectory many thought it would.

“Mine was mine, and happened in its own time, and I think that was a huge lesson for me to accept.”

By 2003, Delta was building an impressive music career, reaching number one in Australia with several hits from her hit debut album Innocent Eyes.

However, in the same year, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Previously appearing on Today Extra, she said: “It was incredibly extreme, to start following your dreams and fly to the States and be a top pop artist, and to come back to Australia and live for a while hard work and love. that has always been my passion.

“But the trajectory has changed. I think when I look at it now and we were able to create the Delta Goodrem Foundation, it’s just part of a journey, it’s my story.

Speaking about her diagnosis, Delta continued: “I was number one and I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“That’s life, you can’t control these things, you just have to do your best and deal with what’s in front of you.

“This is what was part of my life and I was able to not have a wall between me and the people who are fighting and I hope that now we are making a big difference with the foundation, we have done incredible things “We have done these last few years and we have much more to do.

Delta lost her hair due to chemotherapy and said the changes in her physical appearance were “confronting.”

She underwent a year of cancer treatment including eight months of chemotherapy and two months of radiotherapy.

After beating cancer, Delta said her health remains her priority.
