With his sons closing out their college careers next year, Deion Sanders reiterated how his commitment to the Colorado football program is not limited by his presence.
Coach Prime’s sons, Shilo and Shedeur, are entering their final college seasons, and the latter is projected to be one of the top quarterbacks in next year’s draft.
After Colorado’s second spring game, Sanders made his remarks when asked what a season in his new role tells prospects and their parents.
“I’m telling you the truth,” Sanders said. ‘I tell them I’m a father, not a baby daddy. I don’t follow my children. I pave roads for my children. I build generational wealth for my children. I lead my children. I don’t follow my children.
‘So I don’t plan on following my kids to the NFL. I have work to do here.

Shilo and Shedeur Sanders are entering their final college seasons, playing for their father.
“I love it here, and I never would have thought that a young brother from the South would really love this part of the country, but I really love it,” Sanders continued.
‘The fan base we have here. I just want to bless you with a tremendously successful team. I really do. That’s my heart.’
Sanders took over the program last season and turned Colorado into the team to watch in college football. Sanders’ notoriety led to celebrity appearances at games and an increase in UC’s viewership despite a 4-8 finish.
Colorado distributed 28,424 tickets to Saturday’s practice, the second-highest attendance in the history of spring school games. Additionally, Colorado held a full weekend of Black & Gold, including a talent show headlined by Lil Wayne later on Saturday.
Before the game, Sanders thanked the crowd for braving the weather conditions and promised superfan Peggy Coppom, 99, “We’ll take you bowling, ma’am.”

Despite having a losing season, Sanders turned Colorado into a team to watch in college football.
“The progress we’ve made is that there’s another caliber player that’s playing, a player that’s really hoping to get to the next level, which is the NFL,” Sanders said. ‘These young people want to practice. They want to support each other. They want the physical. They want all the smoke, so to speak.
“I love what we’re building in this locker room, and if you’re not part of that thought process or that desire, you don’t fit in.” So now you see the gallop towards the portal, you see it, but even those guys, I wish them the best.’
Several upcoming recruits were on hand for the spring game, as Sanders plans to add more players in the coming weeks. When asked, Coach Prime said he doesn’t have a sales pitch for athletes considering playing for him in Boulder.
“I have nothing to sell,” he said. ‘I don’t sell you dreams. I don’t sell you hope. I tell them that everything they get, they will have to earn. I won’t promise you a number. I don’t promise you a position. I don’t promise to start.
‘We don’t sugarcoat anything. We are not pampering you. We’re not going to hold your hand. You have 127 years of NFL experience under this roof. It’s on you.’
