Broadway fans are calling a ‘dark and twisted’ new play ‘deeply disturbing’, with one audience member saying he was ‘afraid of my seat’.
The terrifying show, which is currently in preview, stars Roseanne alum Laura Metcalf and She Hulk actress Tatiana Maslany.
It tells the story of a couple forced to stay in an isolated cabin after a car accident in the mountains.
At first, the residents of the cabin welcome their new guests, but their stay stretches out for several days as they become trapped by a blizzard.
The new Broadway play Gray House is causing a stir even before it opens, with fans describing it as “deeply disturbing” and “dark and twisted”.
It tells the story of a couple who are forced to stay in a remote cabin after their car crashes in the mountains before things start to take an unsettling turn.
Soon, the couple begins to notice that things are not right with their hosts and their temporary home.
In the weeks leading up to the May 30 opening night, Broadway lovers flocked to New York’s Lyceum Theater for previews of the play.
And it left people scared and terrified.
“Grey House is the first horror play I’ve ever seen. It’s creepy and very funny. Highly recommended for all horror dogs! Laurie Metcalf, Tatiana Maslany and Paul Sparks are great at it,’ one person wrote on Twitter.
‘As a huge horror fan, this show was one of my most anticipated and… WOW. GRAY HOUSE made me shudder in my seat, but more so when thinking about the themes and the show as a whole (not a bad thing!). Absolutely unique and challenging…and a bit terrifying!’ another added.
“My favorite part of seeing Gray House on Broadway yesterday was hearing the guy sitting next to me mumble, ‘What the F***?! during a pivotal scene,’ read a third comment.
“The first time I was scared out of my seat at a Broadway play lol Gray House was pretty wild. Tatiana Maslany, Laurie Metcalf, Sophia Anna Caruso literally killed it… some of them literally,’ a fan wrote.
Someone else on Twitter described it as “very scary”.

On New York theater review site Show Score, one theater buff described it as a “mindf***”.
Another wrote: “Watch it if you like convoluted stories, bizarre and deeply disturbing images/stories, scary jumps, good acting. Session closer to the stage + intense.’
A third reviewer said the show would be for a “dark, twisted person who likes dark, twisted shows”.
‘Multiple layers. Great actors. What does it mean? Who is real? What?!’ they said.
During the 2019 run of the coin, the Chicago Grandstand described it as “legitimately terrifying”.
This comes as Netflix viewers were unable to complete Soft & Quiet due to its creepy plot.
Written and directed by Beth de Araújo, it has been described as “intense” and “bold”.

The twisted plot, starring Stefanie Estes, Olivia Luccardi, Eleaonore Pienta and Dana Millican, follows an elementary school teacher who organized a mixer for white supremacist women.
However, a terrifying chain of events is unleashed when a mysterious person from his past reenters his life.
One posted: “This is literally the only movie I’ve rented and then refused to finish.” It’s also the only movie I want to express to hell.
“We turned on Soft & Quiet and I didn’t think this movie was going to be like this…I’m very disturbed.”
