An earthquake of magnitude 7.8 struck 105 kilometers east-southeast of Suva, Fiji, at a depth of 608 km, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The measure has been revised downward from an initial reading of magnitude 8.1 per USGS.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said no destructive tsunami was expected across the Pacific, and there was no threat of a tsunami to Hawaii.

The New Zealand Ministry of Emergency Management said there was no tsunami threat to New Zealand after the earthquake.
