San Francisco 49ers star Deebo Samuel admitted that losing the Super Bowl left him in a depression.
The 28-year-old wide receiver has reached the top of the NFL twice in recent seasons with the Niners, but has failed to lift the Lombardi Trophy each time.
And the receiver described the pain of losing the big game as one of the worst feelings he’s ever endured.
“I’m not going to lie, losing the Super Bowl makes you depressed,” Samuel said during a special appearance on The St. Brown Podcast. “You spend months without talking to people, wanting them to see you… Losing the Super Bowl is one of the worst feelings in history.
‘Think about our position. We just went through camp, we went through the whole season, we get here, we lose and now you go back to work in three weeks. And you’re about to do it all again. Losing the Super Bowl is crazy. “I lost in the Super Bowl twice against the same team.”
San Francisco recently suffered heartbreak last February when they missed out on glory in an agonizing overtime loss at the hands of the back-to-back champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Niners fell victim to the Kansas City Chiefs both times in agonizing fashion.
The Niners fell 25-22 in Las Vegas when the Chiefs scored a winning touchdown in overtime.
The 49ers led in the fourth quarter until Harrison Butker scored a game-tying field goal in the final minutes to force overtime at Allegiant Stadium.
After opting to receive first, the 49ers only managed to put another three points on the board via Jake Moody’s field goal before Mahomes connected with Mecole Hardman on a three-yard touchdown pass to secure the victory for Kansas City. .
Samuel’s first Super Bowl loss came four years earlier, when the Niners once again fell victim to Patrick Mahomes and company.
The 49ers once again led in the second quarter only for the Chiefs to score 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to win 31-20.
Samuel won’t have to endure any more heartbreak this year as the 49ers have failed to replicate his success this season.
Amid a series of injuries to offensive weapons, including Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk, the Niners have struggled this year and will miss the playoffs.
Samuel has also endured personal struggles on the field this season, totaling just 51 receptions for 670 yards and three touchdowns.
