Police are investigating a disturbing theory after the body of a 40-year-old man was discovered in the car park of an apartment complex in Dee Why on Monday morning.

Investigators say the death of a man whose body was found in the parking lot of an apartment complex in an upmarket suburb is not being treated as a suspected murder.

Emergency services discovered the body of the 40-year-old man at Ilikai Place in Dee Why, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, at 7.11am on Monday following a report from a member of the public.

Riot squad and paramedics spent four hours trying to gain entry to a unit in the complex to speak to a 41-year-old man believed to be an acquaintance of the deceased and also known to police.

He was arrested at around 12.30pm that day and taken to Manly Police Station for questioning. No charges have been laid against him.

Acting Commander Traci Watt of Northern Beaches Police Area Command confirmed the death is being treated as suspicious but not a murder.

The police are now investigating whether the man suffered a drug overdose before his body was dumped in the garage.

“We’ll be waiting for the autopsy results to understand how this gentleman died,” Watt said.

He added that initial investigations revealed that the man showed no signs of injuries.

The man arrested at the unit covered his face with a green hooded sweatshirt as he was escorted to a police car.

A neighbor described seeing a black hatchback approaching the unit complex several times before 5 a.m. Monday morning, but there was no commotion.

“I didn’t hear or see anything, it’s usually a pretty quiet building,” local resident Kassan told Daily Mail Australia.

“It’s very, very scary. I’ve lived in the building for eight months and I found out when the police arrived this morning.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
