Windsor Castle’s decor resembles the set in I Love Lucy, says Coronation concert star Katy Perry… …is that why Charles donated the curtains?
Pop star Katy Perry and her mother spent two nights at Windsor Castle in May as a ‘thank you’ to King Charles for performing at his coronation concert.
Perry was delighted with her ‘wild slumber party’ at the royal residence, but the singer’s mother has now put the episode on hold by comparing the decor inside the 11th century castle to the lackluster furnishings of a 1950s sitcom.
Mary Hudson described the interior as “60s I Love Lucy” style (although I Love Lucy, which starred Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, actually ran from 1951 to 1957).
Last night a Hollywood source said: ‘I’m not sure the King will be happy to have his castle interior compared to Lucy’s which was just nylon sofas, lampshades frilly and dodgy wallpaper.
“The set for the show is very dated and outdated, which Katy’s mom may be referring to.”

Hudson, an evangelical preacher, and her husband Bill are said to be living part-time with Ms Perry and her fiancé, Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom, in a £12million mansion in Montecito, California, so they can be close to their two-year-old granddaughter, Daisy Bloom. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are neighbors.
Hudson’s harsh appreciation of Windsor Castle furniture can perhaps be explained by his daughter’s ultra-elegant residence.
Photographs of the mansion’s living room posted online show modern decor featuring striking geometric wallpapers, sanded oak floors and a manicured lawn.
His commentary on Windsor Castle appeared in an article by socialite columnist Richard Mineards in local magazine Montecito Journal.
Mary reportedly said: ‘We met Charles and his sister Princess Anne and they couldn’t have been more lovely.

“Staying at the castle was an honor, but the interior decorations were 60s I Love Lucy style.”
The source added: “We believe the Royals eat on silver platters and live in splendor so the reality of seeing behind the scenes is always a surprise.”
Ms Perry, 38, spent the night before the coronation concert at the castle before dazzling on stage in a stunning metallic gold ballgown.
Ms Perry and her mother attended an after-show party at the castle alongside fellow performers including Lionel Richie and Andrea Bocelli, before spending their final night there.
