De Ligt returns to the Netherlands national team training

Date:

The Dutch Football Association said that defender Matthijs de Ligt and goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen joined the team’s training after leaving the camp on Thursday due to a viral infection.

The duo missed the 4-0 loss against France in Group Two of the 2024 European Championship qualifiers on Friday, but they recovered and were ready to face Gibraltar in Rotterdam on Monday.

De Ligt and Verbruggen were among five players who returned home after a virus hit the squad on the eve of traveling to Paris.

The KNVB did not provide new details about the condition of defender Sven Putman, forward Cody Gakbo and midfielder Joey Firman.

Luciar Gertruida, who made his international debut against France, will miss a hamstring injury, while defender Stefan de Vrij has returned to Italy because his girlfriend is about to give birth to their child.

Greece had won 3-0 against Gibraltar in the first match.
