Dayton, Perth: ‘Agonized scream’ heard before grandmother’s frantic triple-0 call reporting her three-year-old boy had been run over

Locals have described the horrifying moment they heard a woman scream in agony after a toddler died after falling out of a car and being run over.

The three-year-old boy died after falling out of the pickup truck while it was heading north. Arthur Street in Dayton, north-east of Perth, at around 3.50pm on Wednesday.

The boy, who is believed to have been sitting in the back of the car, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

Residents on the suburban street heard a woman screaming in distress before emergency services arrived at the scene.

Sinikiwe Dumba, a nearby resident, said she went outside after finishing work and only realised what had happened when she saw several people gathered near a park.

“It was only after work that I went out… I saw police cars and police officers patrolling the roads and blocking them,” he said. Western Australia.

‘On the corner in front of the park there were a lot of civilians and police and I heard a woman screaming in agony and I knew something was wrong.’

The boy’s grandmother is believed to have called triple-0 in a panic after he was found unconscious.

Western Australia Police officers returned to the scene on Thursday morning.

Police were seen knocking on doors at homes along Arthur Street.

It is not yet known who was driving the Kia SUV at the time of the incident.

Another resident, Camila Filardo, told the newspaper that it can be difficult to drive a car with children sitting in the back.

“I have 11 grandchildren and I know what it’s like. I always make sure they have their seat belts on in the back seat,” Filardo said.

“Major Crash investigators are conducting an examination of the scene,” WA Police said on Wednesday.
