Days of Our Lives star Greg Vaughan took to Instagram Thursday to share that he suffered a medical emergency while on vacation with his family.
The 50-year-old actor shared with fans online that he was hospitalized after falling ill during a trip to Colorado with his sons.
“Life is like a box of chocolates, ‘you never know what you’re going to get!'” he joked as he began a lengthy caption. ‘I’ve said more than a few times, I really feel like I’m working and living in a soap opera !’
He shared photos of him resting in a doctor’s office and explained that he missed two days of a spring break trip with his sons due to experiencing severe altitude sickness.
He began to explain, ‘Father & Sons Colorado Spring Break! Here it comes! I felt somewhat tired after 1 day, experienced shortness of breath walking up a few flights of stairs, wheezing, some congestion after some cold snowy conditions, and a headache developed. I had been hydrating all day, then at night I drank a bottle of Pedialyte and NyQuiled myself out to be ready to tackle BRECK with the boys the next morning!’

The entertainer went on to say: ‘Unfortunately it was a night of tossing, turning, no sleep, coughing, dry heaving and my head felt like it was in a walnut cracker! Disappointed, morning came and I had to tell my boys, plus our friends who have just arrived, that I was staying home to rest and be my best in our last days! Which only got worse as the day went on! I mentally spun and tried not to think about having another terrible night or losing another day with my boys … but I did.’
Noticing that his health was not improving, he sought medical attention and was diagnosed with ‘severe altitude sickness’.
‘Two full days have passed, enough was enough, I finally gave in and went to emergency treatment and to my shock I learned I was experiencing severe altitude sickness!’ he wrote to fans.
‘My blood oxygen was at 54% and my lungs were full of fluid! Blood oxygen, also known as oxygen saturation, represents the percentage of hemoglobin in your red blood cells that carries oxygen. Most people have an oxygen level of 95-100%…’
After receiving treatment, Greg was eventually released.
‘Well, 4 hours later, a few bags of IV and oxygen tank strapped to my face, I was told I had to get off the mountain immediately!
“But I couldn’t, we still had another day to go and wanted the boys to enjoy their last day on the hilltops!” he shared.
He then added: ‘I chose to go home with an oxygen tank, a good laugh for everyone and I know that will follow, but my boys looked after their old man and luckily they had friends on this trip!’
Vaughan’s story continued with another post

In another post with a picture of his smartwatch showing a reading of his blood oxygen level, the actor wrote: ‘Seriously, no matter your age and all the times I have ⛷️ in my lifetime, the Colorado Rockies no joke!
‘As they say, ‘breathe and smell the roses!’
‘It’s really something we should remember and cherish!’
