Dayot Upamecano’s arrival at Bayern Munich is thrown into chaos as his deal with RB Leipzig does not expire before mid-July… wages
Dayot Upamecano’s arrival at Bayern Munich is reportedly delayed due to a bizarre contract situation with his current club RB Leipzig.
In February, both Bayern and Leipzig publicly confirmed a deal had been struck to see the French defender’s transfer at the end of the season.
Now, however, reports in Germany state that because Upamecano’s £38.5 million release clause was activated, the day he officially leaves Leipzig has been postponed.

It was widely believed by both sides that Upamecano would become a Leipzig player on July 1, but according to photo a further delay of up to two weeks is now on the cards.
The report says the 22-year-old’s contract will not end until July 15, as his resignation clause was activated.
Bild reports that Bayern do have one option to get their man on board earlier, but this includes a commitment to halve Upamecano’s current monthly salary (around €200,000).

The Bavarians would not want to take this action and this phase.
Leipzig’s commercial director Florian Scholz has since confirmed the information with: photo, noting that the club still expects the young Frenchman to report for pre-season preparation despite his impending departure.
Scholz: ‘It would certainly make more sense for both clubs if Dayot Upamecano would start preparing for his new club after the summer holidays.
‘It is true, however, that this is not the case with the current contractual arrangement. That’s why we expect him to train at RB Leipzig.’
Bayern battled fierce competition to secure the signing of Upamecano, despite interest from a host of Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea.

In February, Bayern announced the signing and took note of a July 1 agreement, which has been amended
The Bavarians have promised the youngster guaranteed playing time following the departure of club icon David Alaba who recently joined Real Madrid in La Liga.
“We are pleased to have signed Dayot Upamecano for FC Bayern Munich,” said club board member Hasan Salihamidzic after the clubs confirmed the deal in February.
“We are confident that Dayot will be a very important member of our team in the coming years,” he added.
