Davina McCall has revealed she will undergo brain surgery to remove a benign tumour.

The TV presenter, 57, shared the news in an Instagram post on Friday, revealing she had a “very rare” colloid cyst which affects only three in every million people.

He explained that he received the diagnosis by chance after registering for a “health screening.”

Davina said in a video: “I was offered a health check and I thought it was going to be great, but it turned out I had a benign brain tumour, which is very rare, ‘three in a million’.”

“I had my head in the sand a little bit for a while, visited some neurosurgeons, had a lot of opinions and realized I needed to get it out.

‘It’s quite big, it’s 14 mm wide and you have to remove it because if it grows it would be bad. I’m going to have it removed.

He added: ‘Say a prayer for me. I’m in a good mood.’

Davina explained that while she was not at any immediate risk, doctors were concerned about what would happen if the tumor grew further.

She revealed that she had been feeling “up and down” and explained that she would be in hospital for at least nine days before returning home.

A colloid cyst is a slow-growing tumor that is usually found near the center of the brain. The benign growth contains gelatinous material.

Most patients experience headaches, although other symptoms such as vertigo, memory problems, and double vision may occur.

If large enough, a colloid cyst obstructs the movement of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the brain, which leads to a high risk of sudden death.

Davina’s partner Michael Douglas uploaded the video and captioned the post: “Hello everyone. Miguel here. He will be “off the grid” for a while while he recovers from this brain surgery.

‘It is in very good shape and in very good hands. I’ll make the occasional update from his account here for anyone interested.

‘I’m sure you’ll read all the comments when you can, so feel free to send the love . People’s support is incredibly powerful. May everyone have a great day. Miguel xxx’.

Davina has been dating celebrity hairdresser Michael, 49, for five years and although the couple are happily happy, they have no plans to walk down the aisle together.

Since they had both been married previously, Davina explained that they didn’t need to “make waves” by tying the knot, insisting that, for now, marriage is “off the table.”

Davina was last pictured last week enjoying a night out at Garnier's Celebration Masquerade Hair Party, showing off her dance moves on the dance floor with friends.

Speaking to The Sun, she answered “no” on both occasions when asked if she was engaged to Michael or planned to marry in the future.

Laying out his reasons for his refusal, he continued: “That’s not even on the table, it’s just not.” He’s been (married before), so we’re both happy, let’s not make waves. Let’s keep things secret.

‘We are not interested. I had known Michael for so many years (before we got together) that there were no questions to ask like that. I know him. It was easy.’

Putting aside any questions about her love life, Davina concluded by saying: ‘I love Michael. And I always feel like he’s too valuable to talk about in public. I just want to keep him.’

Davina and Michael were old friends and met when he did her hair during their Big Brother presenting days.

WHAT IS A COLLOID CYST?

A colloid cyst is a slow-growing tumor that is usually found near the center of the brain.

The benign growth contains gelatinous material.

Most patients experience headaches, although other symptoms such as vertigo, memory problems, and double vision may occur.

If large enough, a colloid cyst obstructs the movement of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the brain.

This results in a buildup of CSF in the ventricles of the brain and increases pressure in the skull.

Surgery may be required immediately to reduce the relatively high risk of sudden death.
