The mother of the woman allegedly raped by a cricket star told the court of a phone call she received from her daughter moments after the alleged attack.

Hobart Hurricanes player Nikhil Chaudhary has been charged with one count of rape after it was alleged he raped a woman in his car after meeting her at a nightclub on the Townsville strip.

Chaudhary pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Crown prosecutor Shannon Sutherland called the alleged victim’s mother to the stand to testify about the night the alleged crime occurred.

She said she had gone to bed at 11:30 p.m. on the night in question and missed a phone call from her daughter at 3:11 a.m., minutes after the alleged rape occurred.

The court heard that the mother contacted her daughter at 3.53am.

“I couldn’t hear much because she was crying, she seemed upset,” the mother told the Townsville Bulletin.

“I asked him why he was crying and he told me that maybe he would go to trial.

“She told me she met this guy at the nightclub, they hung out for a while and she mentioned that she left the club with him and got in the car with him.”

During cross-examination by defense lawyer Claire Grant, the mother was asked if her daughter had told her the man had “tried” to touch her.

“She told him that he was on top of her and she told him to let her out of the car and at that point he started touching her,” Ms Grant said.

‘I said: did it touch you? And she said she did try,’ her mother responded.

Nicole Aitkins, a forensic examiner, was called to the stand to give her expertise about the woman’s injury the night of the alleged rape.

He said he had found a 1cm by 1cm abrasion on the woman’s genitals and said it could have been caused by a finger, although he could not conclusively say it was caused by the defendant.

“You’re not able to say conclusively what caused the abrasion you observed?” Mrs. Grant asked.

Mrs Aitkins replied: “No.”

“With the history that (the woman) gave me, it is a possible cause of the injury that I had seen,” Mrs. Atkins said.

Officer Alexandra Smith also provided evidence, having interviewed the alleged victim after the alleged incident.

“She didn’t appear under the influence,” the agent said.

“She was coherent, walked well and spoke well and did not appear to be affected by alcohol.”

“She told me that she had been inside a vehicle with a man and that the man sexually assaulted her.”

The prosecution’s evidence concluded Tuesday afternoon and Chaudhary chose not to testify.

The court session was adjourned until Wednesday morning, where both sides will present their final statements.
