‘I’m in no great hurry’: David Moyes admits he hasn’t started talking about a new contract with West Ham, with his 18-month deal expiring at the end of the season.
- David Moyes joined West Ham late last year and led them to safety
- West Ham are undefeated in their last three Premier League games and are in 10th place
- Moyes is second at the club after six months in the 2017-18 season
West Ham United manager David Moyes insists he is in no rush to sign a new contract with the club, and his deal will expire at the end of the season.
It has been almost a year since Moyes replaced Manuel Pellegrini at the Olympic Stadium. Not only did he lead the club to the safety of the Premier League last season, but thanks to a good recent run, the Hammers have moved up into the top half of the standings.
Moyes is no stranger to long-term contracts. He spent 11 years with Everton before signing a six-year contract with Manchester United in a fateful 10-month period. But short-term contracts were the order of the day at West Ham, after spending six months with the club in the 2017-18 season.

The club was in the relegation zone that season, where Moyes was able to bring the team to safety. But he was not offered a new contract, with co-chairmen David Gold and David Sullivan choosing former Manchester City man Pellegrini.
The 57-year-old ticked all the boxes in his second stint, and while he said talks about a new contract are underway, he admitted that no decisions have yet been made about his future.
“I have a really good relationship with the owners at the moment,” said Moyes.

‘I’m trying to move the club in a way that I see. Like everything else, I am on the phone and talk to them most days.
“I’m not in a great hurry and to be honest, we’ve won a few games, we’ve got a draw and if we’ve had 10 or 12 wins and five or six draws and we’ve got really good.”
After a difficult start to the season in which they lost their first two games, the team saw a drastic recovery in form. They have been unbeaten in their last three matches, including a dramatic 3-3 draw against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

They have scored ten goals in those three games and no team has scored more goals in the Premier League than the Hammers in 2020. Remarkably, the team has scored at least three goals in nine of their 24 league games since Moyes returned.
Moyes, however, is trying not to get ahead of his plans for the future, with tough matches against Manchester City and Liverpool awaiting the side.
“I want it to be something good for West Ham and it will be good for David Moyes, too,” he said.
‘I want us to feel like we’re heading in the right direction. Today it feels that way, but as you know, it can change very quickly in this game. ‘
