DAVID MARCUS: The post-Title 42 border crisis will seal the election – and Biden’s shameful legacy

Date:

As migrants flood from Mexico to the United States in the wake of the end of Title 42, it’s not just our border towns and major cities that are being overwhelmed, but also President Joe Biden’s legacy and prospects. of re-election.

How ironic, really, that it took a Trump-era policy, one of the last in place, to maintain some semblance of order.

For, just 24 hours without the strict migrant deportation order has made it all too clear how a hapless Biden can do little but watch the disaster he has wrought unfold.

If there is to be a rematch of the 2020 presidential race, now is the moment that could come to define it, an event that will not only touch the lives of most Americans, but could forever change the nature of our country. .

We are now just over a day into the post-Title 42 world and already 22,000 souls are massed at the border across from Brownsville, Texas alone.

Buses full of migrants are already being dispatched across the country to ease the load on our southern states and overworked border agents.

And already, the number of people caught crossing illegally this week has exceeded a staggering 10,000 a day.

This is an absolute tidal wave – and Americans are only just beginning to see how disastrous it will be; a coming tsunami of suffering born of Biden’s dangerous negligence.

The sights, sounds and even the smells of the border are horrific as helpless families are left in squalid conditions.

On the streets of El Paso, Texas, babies are screaming under tarps tied to garbage cans.

And it’s happening in a city near you!

In a grim throwback to the pandemic’s emergency pop-up hospitals, New York is discussing plans to create a tent city on Central Park to house migrants.

And, like the Hoovervilles of the Great Depression, every city from coast to coast should soon expect its own Bidenville.

In Portland, Maine – about as far from the southern border as the Biden administration is competent – a basketball arena is home to hundreds of asylum seekers.

In Denver, officials expect to spend $20 million in just six months to deal with the crisis.

Surely, the evil Mexican cartels, happy to traffic drugs or human lives, had May 12 circled on the calendar as a holiday – no need for complicated trafficking operations without that annoying Title 42.

As the policy expired Thursday night, Senator Ted Cruz summed it up when he told President Biden, “People killed crossing illegally, it’s your fault.” Sexually abused women crossing illegally, it’s your fault. Bullied children crossing illegally, it’s your fault. The people who die of drug overdoses – more than 100,000 last year – it’s your fault.

But what does our president say about all this?

This is an absolute tidal wave – and Americans are only just beginning to see how disastrous it will be; a coming tsunami of suffering born of Biden's dangerous negligence. (Pictured: Migrants line up to be processed in El Paso, Texas).

He says it’s going to be “chaotic for a while”.

Chaotic? Chaotic pulls out of the parking lot after a Taylor Swift concert. This is a deadly humanitarian catastrophe that you, Mr. President, and your band of Open Border buffoons have created.

Since our commander-in-chief is unwilling, or perhaps unable, to speak intelligently about the border crisis, he sends Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, arguably the administration’s least competent cabinet member. , which is already a highly contested title.

A deaf Mayorkas told CBS Friday morning that even though the situation is “difficult…we will continue to execute our plan…it will succeed.”

Of course, my friend.

Is it any wonder that smart Republican governors like Gregg Abbot in Texas and Ron DeSantis in Florida ferried migrants to sapphire blue places like New York, Washington DC and Martha’s Vineyard?

The only way these out-of-touch Democrats will begin to understand is if they sense this crisis on their doorstep.

Naturally, instead of working to find a solution, the Biden administration prefers to blame Congress for its inaction.

The only problem with that is that this week Republican President Kevin McCarthy pushed through the Secure the Border Act – a sweeping security bill that fixes most of today’s problems.

Biden, of course, has vowed to veto it.

Many issues will be vying for the 2024 election: abortion, inflation, crime and – should he be the candidate – Donald Trump’s sordid assortment of scandals.

But make no mistake, no problem will be felt so viscerally by Americans as this outpouring of humanity.

After all, we will see the Bidenvilles rise across America, we will feel our local services shrink under the fiscal realities of mass migration, we will experience overcrowded hospitals and failing schools under the weight of this population explosion.

And the sad reality is that this disaster lasted three years. Everyone has long said that Biden and his immigration czar Kamala Harris are weak on the border issue. We are now witnessing the true extent of their incompetence.

That such chaos did not exist under Trump will not be lost on voters.

Between now and the presidential election, every illegal immigrant who kills an American, every teenager who overdoses on fentanyl brought in across the open border, every senior who has fewer hot meals due to budget cuts, and every child in a cramped classroom will be a reason to make sure Biden doesn’t spend another minute in the White House.

And it’s more than that: Every history book from now until our nation is no longer known will candidly portray him as the president who ceded the American border.

It will be a legacy of deep and deep shame.
