- David De Gea faces big season after losing his spot at Manchester United
- Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferred Dean Henderson late in the 2020-21 season
- De Gea was also on the bench at Euro 2020 when Spain reached the semi-finals
- The keeper is now back early for season preparation, aiming to get back to his best
David De Gea has decided that enough is enough, he is coming back from his holiday early to stick with the preparation for the season to get his career back on track.
The Spaniard’s stock has taken a dramatic plunge in the past 12 months, losing his spot between the sticks to Dean Henderson at Old Trafford after a miserable, error-ridden 2020-21 season.
De Gea couldn’t even get off the couch at Euro 2020, with Luis Enrique favoring Unai Simon as Spain reached the semi-finals this summer.

The 30-year-old was not expected back in the north west of England until early August, but is back in Carrington after just two weeks of vacation.
“David wants to be back and sharp. He could have taken it easy for three weeks, but he also knows that Hendo is equally determined to prove himself to Ole,” a United insider told the newspaper. Sun.
Henderson had to watch from the bench as England stormed to the European Championship final this summer after sustaining a hip injury just days before the tournament.
The 24-year-old is already back in training for the new season – probably the most important factor in De Gea’s decision to forgo a few more weeks of vacation.

De Gea will be eager to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and secure the starting spot for the opening game against Leeds United.
The Spaniard was far from his best season last season, which culminated in a nightmarish penalty shootout in the Europa League final.
He failed to stop one of Villarreal’s 11 spot kicks before missing his own and handing the trophy to the La Liga side.
De Gea will be happy to play a key role this season with United coming stronger for a title challenge. They have drawn Jadon Sancho and approach Raphael Varane, two men who may be the missing puzzle pieces.
