David Beckham accepted an Emmy for his Netflix documentary series via video call as producers called him from the ceremony in Los Angeles.

The former footballer, 49, and his wife Victoria, 50, have been nominated in a whopping five categories for the 2023 Netflix documentary Beckham: What Makes David Run.

On Saturday at the Creative Arts Emmys in Los Angeles, the docuseries triumphed in the documentary or nonfiction series category.

The award was collected by producer Fisher Stevens, who called the footballer during the celebration to tell him of his success.

In a clip shared on Instagram from the Emmys, a group surrounded Fisher as he video-called David to tell him about the win.

“It’s okay, David,” the actor and producer shouted as he broke the news.

“Amazing,” David replied as the camera panned to show the screen, to which Fisher said, “We miss you bro, we miss you.”

David shared his disappointment at not being present, as he promised he and Fisher would celebrate in a few weeks.

“All the love to the family, congratulations,” added Fisher, before the footballer and producer said goodbye.

The series offered an unprecedented look at David’s career path and a glimpse into the beginning of his romance and marriage.

The four-part series was nominated for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series at the 2024 Emmy Awards, alongside Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV, STAX: Soulsville USA Telemarketers and The Jinx – Part Two.

It was also nominated for Best Cinematography for a Nonfiction Program, Best Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program, Best Picture Editing and Best Musical Composition.

In reaction, David told HELLO!: ‘It is a real honour for me and the entire creative team to have BECKHAM recognised by the Television Academy.
