Dave Portnoy’s thoughts on the New York Jets franchise became known when he mocked Aaron Rodgers and Co. after the Jets lost to the Patriots on Sunday.
With newly promoted starting quarterback Drake Maye injured, New England still managed a 25-22 victory over a healthier Jets team.
After the exciting contest, Barstool’s head of sports took to social media and expressed his disbelief at how bad the Jets are.
‘It may hurt. The Patriots beat the Jets. Bad day. Damn, the Jets franchise is a joke,” Portnoy wrote on X. “I can’t even lose to them when we’re collapsing.”
Maye’s brief shift saw him complete three of six attempts for 23 yards. Moments after scoring the first points of the game with a 17-yard rushing touchdown, Maye was removed from the contest.
Dave Portnoy called the New York Jets a ‘joke’ after losing to the Patriots on Sunday afternoon.
Aaron Rodgers and the Jets have lost six straight games and have a record of 2-6.
With a minute left in the opening period, Maye took a helmet-to-helmet hit from Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood.
Jacoby Brissett stepped in and completed 15 of his 24 passes for 132 yards, leading the Patriots to victory.
On the other hand, Rodgers completed 17 of 28 attempts for 233 yards and two touchdowns in the Jets’ loss.
New York’s turbulent start to the season has seen them lose their fifth straight game. Their only two wins came in Week 2 and Week 3 against Tennessee and New England, respectively.
Rodgers outplayed Brissett and Maye in their first meeting this season, completing 27 of 35 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-3 rout. However, things would start to fall apart for the Jets from that point on.
Both teams now have a 2-6 record, placing them at the bottom of the AFC East below the 2-5 Dolphins and 5-2 Bills.
The Jets will have a quick turnaround when they host the Texans on October 31. Meanwhile, the Patriots will look to keep the momentum going after snapping a six-game losing streak when they face the Titans on Nov. 3.
