Dave Portnoy woke up in the middle of the night to attack the New York Yankees after Aaron Judge’s team blew a 5-0 lead to lose the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
It all started very well for the Yankees: Aaron Judge returned to form with a home run off the first ball he faced and Jazz Chisholm followed next.
Giancarlo Stanton also homered and the Yankees took a 5-0 lead. At that point, Portnoy went to bed and missed New York’s fifth-inning collapse.
Judge dropped a routine catch in center field, his first error all year, to trigger the collapse before pitcher Gerrit Cole failed to cover Anthony Rizzo in the first inning, which would have been an easy out for Mookie. Betts to end the inning.
Anthony Volpe also threw the ball to Jazz Chisholm at third with the out at first in an error-laden inning for the Yankees, as the Dodgers got back to 5-5.
Dave Portnoy was excited to see the Yankees collapse and lose the World Series to the Dodgers.
It was a night to forget for Aaron Judge and his team, despite an excellent start in New York.
The Yankees regained the lead again, only for the Dodgers to regain it once again and win a game that clinched the series 8-7 at Yankee Stadium.
According to the time of his post on X, Portnoy posted at 3:49 a.m. after checking the score; I couldn’t believe what I had seen.
‘I just woke up and checked the Yankees score. ‘They lost!!!!’ Portnoy wrote with 17 crying and laughing emojis. ‘How they ruined that!
“I think I’d rather go 0-162 than make the playoffs and be embarrassed on a national stage like they did. Holy crap.
He tweeted again in the morning: “Can’t believe Judge dropped a routine fly ball.
‘I can’t believe Anthony Volpe threw a ground ball to third base. I can’t believe Cole didn’t cover first base. The Yankees are the new poster child for futility. What a mighty fall from grace! From power to laughingstock.’
To his credit, Yankees captain Judge accepted that his mistake was costly in the fifth.
“You can’t give a good team like that extra outs,” Judge said. “It starts with me in the entry line. I played that wrong.
“So that doesn’t happen, so I think we have a different story tonight.” I just didn’t make the play.’
