Dave Coulier describes how he discovered he was The Guy in Alanis Morrissette's You Oughta Know

Dave Coulier revealed that it took him a moment or two to realize he was the man described in Alanis Morrisette’s hit song You Oughta Know.

In an interview on Tuesday’s episode of Sirius XM Faction Talk, hosted by Jim Norton and Sam Roberts, the 62-year-old comedian revealed about his first experience with a chart-topping song in 1995.

The actor recently wrapped up his final season on Full House and was driving in his hometown of Detroit when he first heard the song on the radio. And I’m like, ‘Wow, that’s a really cool hook. Then I started hearing the sound. I’m like, “Wow, this girl can sing.”

Dave mentioned that Alanis, 48, has been writing songs for Jagged Little Pill during their two-year relationship. They started dating in 1992 when the singer was 18 and Dave was 30. The couple divorced a few months before the recording of the Grammy Award winning album.

“And I had no idea, you know, that was the record.”

When he started listening closely to the tune, the Live + Local star explained that the details started to feel familiar to him.

Jagged Little Pill won five Grammys in 1996 at the 38th Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Best Rock Album. In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked it 69th among the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The songs were made into a Tony Award-winning musical.

Dave described the Ionian artist as “beautiful” during and after their relationship.

Years later, we reconnected and she couldn’t have been sweeter. And I said, “What do you want me to say when people ask me about this relationship?” And she said, “You can say whatever you want.” So she was really nice about it.

He went on to extol the virtues of his former flame. “I’ll tell you what kind of person she is,” he began. When my sister, Sharon, was dying of cancer, Alanis was living in Toronto. My sister was in Detroit. She actually drove to Detroit with her guitar and sat with my sister playing songs and singing to my sister in the hospital. This is the kind of human she is. So I didn’t have anything bad to say about it. she is beautiful “.

Sweet: The comedian said when asked how she'd like to respond to questions about the relationship, the singer replied

Since their relationship, Alanis and Dave have both gone on to find success in business and relationships. The Robot Chicken voice actor has been married to his wife, Melissa, since 2014. He has a son, Luke, 31, from his first marriage to model Jane Modine.

Alanis has been married to hip-hop artist Mario Soleil Treadway since 2010. They are a father of three, Ever Emery, 11, Onyx Solas, 5, and Winter Mercy Morissette Treadway, 3.

When asked if the rumors from the song bothered him, the Fuller House star replied with the philosophy, “It was what it was.”
