Matthew Hussey, the leading dating coach with more than three million subscribers on YouTube, has warned that there are two obvious red flags to look out for if you want to avoid headaches in the future.
Speaking on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, the US-based dating guru warned that an “inability to say sorry” and “not keeping promises” are big warning signs, but added that one should not be too rigid when it comes to the relationship. break deals.
Discussing his new book, Love Life: How to Raise Your Standards, Find Your Person, and Live Happily (No Matter What), Hussey told host Evans: “I always say red flags are a dangerous thing because we live in a world where everything is wrong.” become a warning sign for people.
But despite saying we should let some minor mistakes slide, Hussey said there are certain red flags that “really matter” and “ignoring them” would make “happiness virtually impossible.”
The life coach explained that if he were to rule out the “superfluous red flags” and point out the ones “that really matter,” the two crucial ones are the inability to say sorry and not keeping promises.
The dating guru advised against being too rigid with the red flags at first, but cautioned that there are two that should be deal-breakers.
Hussey continued: ‘None of those things, just once, are necessarily the end of the world. We’ve all broken a promise, forgotten to do something we said we would do.
‘We’ve all had an argument where we found it difficult to say sorry. But as a chronic condition of someone who doesn’t keep their word and someone who can’t ask for forgiveness, those two alone are pretty powerful red flags.
‘But together, they become what I consider to be a kind of dark couple. Because if you have someone who can’t keep his promises, but when he doesn’t keep them, he can’t even be responsible for it. They can’t ask for forgiveness. Yeah, that’s a really powerful combination.”
Hussey, who was recently linked to Camila Cabello after the singer revealed she lost her virginity to the dating guru aged 20, began working as a life coach in the UK in her teens before moving to the US. . USA when he was twenty years old and attracting celebrity followers. including Eva Longoria and Tyra Banks.
American singer Camila Cabello and Matthew Hussey met in 2018 and dated for a year.
The life coach and bestselling author will marry his current partner Audrey Le Strat in 2023
His first book, Get the Guy: Learn the Secrets of the Male Mind to Find the Man You Want and the Love You Deserve, was published in 2013 and became a New York Times bestseller.
In his new book, published in April 2024, Hussey helps readers create an action plan to find a healthy relationship by letting go of negative past experiences and learning to spot red flags in a potential partner.
In his conversation with Evans, Hussey also goes on to say that those looking for a new relationship shouldn’t put “chemistry” at the top of their wish list when it comes to a new partner.
“We tend to have very high standards about things that don’t matter, especially when we’re in our 20s and so on,” the dating coach continued.
‘The person you’re dating now, or in a relationship with now, doesn’t have to win the award for the greatest chemistry you’ve ever had in your life.
‘You need chemistry with them somehow.
“But guess what, you also need a bunch of other things that are hugely important to a real relationship, like reliability, loyalty, consistency, respect, and being seen by that person.”
‘These are the things we have to start prioritizing if we want to be happier. “We have to start looking for the right things instead of the wrong things.”
