A driver and his passenger are lucky to be alive after a runaway white sedan crossed a median strip and then bumped into him in the middle of the night.

Terrifying footage of the crash on Robert’s Road in Greenacre, western Sydney, was captured on a dashcam.

With no more than a second to respond, the driver is powerless to do anything other than bump into the Kia Cerato and hope he survives.

The heavy, sudden collision caused the white car to spiral out of control and onto the sidewalk.

The car with the dash cam ended up in the middle of the road with a crumpled hood and a smashed windshield.

Dash Cam Owners Australia, the Facebook page on which the video was posted, claims that the white car’s occupants fled the scene immediately after the crash.

Daily Mail Australia has not been able to determine from NSW police whether anyone has been charged in connection with the crash.

It also remains a mystery whether anyone was injured during the smash.

Social media users were shocked by the terrifying incident.

‘I hope everyone is okay with that. That’s a big hit, ‘one person commented.

“Poor driver will probably never forget that, while the idiots who caused the accident are probably already behind the wheel,” said another.

Others reflected on the advancements in car safety given the impact of the crash.

“I’m surprised how well-built modern cars are,” said one commenter.

That guy in the passenger seat would have been dead thirty years ago. Instead, he gets out and runs (allegedly). ‘
