Darling Downs Fire, Queensland: One feared dead in massive bakery fire

At least one person is feared dead after a popular bakery and an adjoining house were destroyed in a massive fire.

Firefighters are on scene battling the inferno at Duo Bakery and Cafe in Highfields, in Queensland’s Darling Downs region, which broke out about 6am on Thursday.

The New England Highway buildings were “well wrapped” when firefighters arrived.

At least one person is feared dead.

Emergency teams have not ruled out that there were other people inside at the time.

It is currently unclear what caused the fire and whether it started in the bakery or the house next door.

Queensland Police have prepared a crime scene.
