And on Monday it was revealed that Daniel has earned a Best Actor nomination at next year’s Golden Globe Awards.
He was previously nominated in 2020 and 2023 for his work on the Glass Onion films, but lost at the ceremonies.
This time he faces tougher competition as he takes on Adrien Brody, The Brutalist; Timothée Chalamet, a complete unknown; Colman Domingo, Sing Sing; Sebastian Stan, The Apprentice and his British partner Ralph Fiennes, Conclave.
Queer sees him star alongside 31-year-old Drew Starkey in Luca Guadagnino’s long-awaited film based on the semi-autobiographical novel of the same name by William Burroughs.
The period romantic drama, set in 1950s Mexico City, follows American expatriate and war veteran William Lee (played by Craig), who has an affair with a younger man, Eugene Allerton (Starkey), a drug addict and military man discharged from the Navy.
It comes after Daniel revealed he felt “empty” and emotionally “exhausted” after filming each of his James Bond films.
He starred in five Bond films between 2006 and 2021, and Daniel has now admitted that the money-making films took a physical and emotional toll on him.
But reflecting on his Bond days, he said Sunday weather last weekend: ‘I couldn’t have done this (Queer) while doing Bond. It would seem reactionary, like I was showing my reach.
“At the beginning of Bond I thought I had to do other work, but I didn’t. I was becoming a star, whatever that meant, and people wanted me in their movies. Incredible.
“Most actors are out of work for long periods, so you take your job offers, but they left me empty. Then, long story short, they paid me.

‘I was so exhausted at the end of a Bond that it would take me six months to recover emotionally. I always had the attitude that life should come first and, when work came first for a while, it blew me away.’
Daniel still really loves the Bond franchise and is curious to see where producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson decide to take it next.
He added that who the next Bond could be is “not my decision or my problem” but said he wished “good luck” to whoever they chose.
Daniel revealed that he ended up “writing a lot of lines” in the 2008 Bond film Quantum Of Solace, admitting that the film “just didn’t quite work.”
He recalled his time on set, but bluntly admitted that it was a “bloody nightmare” as they lacked writers and production began without a script.
speaking in The Hollywood Reporter Awards Talk On the podcast, the Knives Out star said: ‘Tough second album: fucking nightmare.’

“We should have never started production. I ended up writing a lot of that movie, which I probably shouldn’t say.”
The English actor continued: “There are some amazing stunt sequences, but it just didn’t quite work.
“The narration wasn’t there, that’s a lesson: starting a movie without a script is not a good idea.”
