Danny previously admitted that he walked a dark path before his career in Hollywood.
In the 1960s, Danny spent over a decade going in and out of prison for armed robbery and drug-related crimes.
The Machete actor – who grew up in a troubled home in Pacoima, California – was in hot water for accidentally hitting a guard over the head with a rock as he tried to throw it at other inmates, saying he faced the death penalty for attempted homicide .
He told The Guardian: ‘I threw it at a group of lads and he just happened to get hit,
“So we all had gas chamber violations, and we were taken to the hole, and I remember saying, ‘God, if you’re there, everything will work out as it should. If you don’t, I’m screwed.'”
It seemed that God listened to his prayers and the case was eventually dropped for lack of evidence.
He kept his promise to God and has been sober since 1969.
It comes after Danny “filed for bankruptcy” to “reorganize his assets” and help deal with his “$2 million tax bill” after “falsely claiming deductions for years.”
The actor starred in the Hollywood blockbusters Machete in 2010, Spy Kids in 2001, and also appeared in the popular Netflix series Breaking Bad as Tortuga.
Despite his film career continuing into his later years, Danny has been very busy with his various food businesses, including Trejo Tacos and Trejo’s Coffee and Donuts in Las Vegas.
But according to TMZ, the star is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, also known as the “reorganization bankruptcy,” which allows a company to survive and restructure its liabilities.
The publication reports that the filing was made to settle his massive tax bill, which is reported to be around $2 million (£1.6 million).

Danny reportedly told TMZ that he “falsely claimed deductions over the years that caught up with him.”
They added that he “jokingly” revealed that he now realizes that grooming dogs is not a “legitimate expense that you can write off.”
The kind of bankruptcy means his various businesses, including his record label and his numerous Los Angeles restaurants, will not be affected.
His businesses are owned by companies “he set up to run them.”
Danny added that he expects to be debt free sometime in 2024.
